Badwater is a joke race for running clowns any way. I'd encourage people to cheat.

Run a little, see the sights, get in the car drive in the AC, then get out and run into the finish. Good times.

BW is a joke one way or the other. If she finished then it really cannot be considered a tough race (we've all seen her "run" on those vids by now), and if she cheated, and it stands, then it's really a self reporting fun run. More of a tough mudder...

you're right. Of people I know who aim for badwater, they use real races as their qualifying races, and so I presumed it was hard.

When you look at the critera cricially, it says, "send us race times, run some 100 milers."

It does not specify what 100 milers, etc...it just says they need to have a website that starts with http://. Not even https :)

So, basically, if you can make a website and upload an excel file or two - you may also run Badwater. What a shame. The RD has to know this though... there are "usual races" used for entry, and then mysterious I Ran stuff no one has ever heard of. You really think he just trusts her?

For every race mentioned, the application must include the full race name, year, place, and finishing time, plus the hotlink to the specific webpage on the event website which will verify your claim. All links listed should be complete, i.e., start with http://.

"Officially finishing" any event mentioned is defined as meeting all time cutoffs, including the overall time limit, for the event in question.

Most of the ultra running community considers Badwater the Disney or RnR of ultra marathoning. It attracts a certain segment of the ultra community. From what I've read on this thread, PM and Darren fit right into that segment.

one thing I notice that strikes me is that in all her race photos of Badwater and recent race events she is wearing the same shoes as best I can tell

sure she could just have multiple pairs

but it just seems strange that you would wear a pair of shoes to do Badwater and then keep wearing them, I would think they would be pretty much shot

not an indicia of cheating just seems strange

maybe that is why PM and SH figure cheating is ok. I am annoyed and irritated at RnR giving everyone a medal even if they take the sag wagon from mile 18-26.1.... but i figure no one takes their events very seriously so whatever, if you're a bucket list runner, know that your one marathon was a fake one, and since I know how RnR rolls, I choose not to spend my money on their junk events.

I've never wanted to run a 100 (I've paced some folks at some) and so Badwater has never been on my bucket list nor have I looked at it very closely.

All that said, cheating on a weekly/daily basis, we can't get her to DQ herself from her own events, so we gotta work on the other RDs.

I hope anyone who finds pertinent or interesting photographs—either for or against any cheating allegations—saves them for evidence.
