Scott Jones being let go is an example of the worst aspects of collegiate sport. It aint like he was coming to practice drunk or hitting on his athletes...

He should have been the last person to be let go from that staff. Shame on you, Dennis Mitchell. You're a despicable human being and you are not to be trusted.

Dude is brilliant with a PhD in oceanography and any staff would be lucky to have him.

Good luck, Scott. You deserved better than that for your loyalty. I know you'll land squarely on your feet.

Does Wendell McRaven go with? Those two are both NCC alums and Jim is why Wendell ended up at TAMU.

Interesting question. Stay or go. Help build or stay with a proven winner in the leadership position. Either way, it makes for more movement in the coaching ranks.

I've noticed that Jim moved around a lot earlier in his career. If that was during todays era he would be slammed!

It would be unlikely that OU could match pay unless they offer McRaven associate head.

And it certainly looks like A&M is giving distance what they need with the cross country course and several distance medalists the past couple of years.

How many of these new head coaches really open up their assitant positions to find the best coach for an event group out there?

In meantime, the true winners are the volunteers at big programs....Just go to TAMU, pretend you help Pat Henry for 2 years and BAM land that full time coaching position over guys with +5 years of making All americans in nobody gives a S places. Have Henry call for you, he wont care if he gets good coaches that payed their dues out of the pool

This is true. To have a chance, you have to make coaching your #1 career choice that results in years of subservient, underpaid, overworked duties for no promise of moving upward or onward. Possibly even being eliminated when the head coach moves on. There is a lot of switchy-changy that occurs and those head coaches know exactly how to build their program with qualified assistants and still get by paying them beans. I've looked around at a lot of salaries of college coaches since it's public information and it's just not a very good paying job unless you have a head position and it's still not that great at most places. I understand that most in the business have a passion for the sport and are damned good at what they do and are willing to sacrifice a better financial lifestyle for it but I don't understand the disparity in the head coach to assistant coach salary. The real saddening thing is the ridiculous difference in what assistants for football and bb make compared to head track/CC. It's sad to see what value is placed on equivalent amounts of responsibility and committment to students across sports. Especially those universities that go out of their way to keep a coach and the ridiculous wage increases. Meanwhile the brain suregeon dept. head can't even see the top of the list throug all of the coaching salaries from where he's sitting.

Hearing that Tim Langford from Charleston Southern University and James Daniels former coach at NC A&T are in the running for South Carolina State position. Announcement should come this week.

Why is Henry being mentioned along with this crap about the poor assistants? His assistants make between 75 and 85k base.

The team admin was making almost 70k.

Where did Ball State's distance coach go? Who is going to get hired at Ball State to coach the distance runners?

coach labadie, who currently coaches men's distance at akron, will be absorbing the responsibilities of the women's distance program as well. Scott Jones has applied for a couple coaching positions elsewhere but has not been in contact with us regarding where he will be going/if he has accepted a position. He was a great coach, father figure, and role model. Smart guy. Really held the track program together in its entirety here at akron and we will miss him. He deserves the best, he poured his heart and soul into this program and much of the success you saw here in our indoor meets, outdoor meets, high school indoor open track nights, and various open houses was put on largely in part of his sincere time and effort.

What Candidates could LSU replace Mark Elliott ?

What assistant will he bring in and what areas?
