NXN 2023 Way too early preview: Dawn of a new Era

Good list overall. But why do you have Jesuit OR so far behind Crater & CDA?

Oh, saw in another thread that these are Dyestat rankings. In any case, I think Jesuit should be close to Crater / CDA

So northeast teams only finished 18th, 21st at nxn last year. But now they are ranked 3rd, 8th, 11th, 14th.

I mean sure: by the numbers Westfield, Brookline, and Union Catholic are better than CBA 2022. However, CBA 2022 was 18th in the nation last year. Idk what do people think

Northeast is overrated & Southwest is underrated.

Some races are showing that Oakdale and San Clemente are better this year than last year. Oakdale went 2nd at runninglane. San Clemente was 7th at Nationals. Jesuit OR is trying to match the hype for their team in 2022, and Riverton won runninglane last year.

It’s also possible that last years nationals results don’t have any bearing on what this years will be. Athletes get better. Teams grow and get better (and worse). Pretty clear cba and SLC, among others ran poorly at nxn last year and have other times in the past , but multiple of their guys also were apparently very sick so it’s possible they should have been quite a bit better.

Regardless of last year, the top 3-5 in the country seem to be in a slightly better category than the rest. There seems to be a lot more variance after that which is where most of the country fits in, including CA, secondary SW and NE teams, and many others, with another gap after 15 or so.

State meets and NXR meets over the next few weeks may or may not make things clearer, but that’s XC! Excited to see these teams duke it out then and on December 2nd!

Southlake Carroll was 3rd at Woodbridge above teams that went 6th and 7th at NXN. It is believable that the southlake Carroll team caught sickness.
Who did CBA beat last season that makes it ‘clear’ that they had a bad day? If anything, the northeast should be the most prepared region when it comes to running at NXN. It’s cold, windy, with spikes and grass. Some regions don’t race in those conditions until NXN.
In 2019, the NXN committee took in 3-at large individuals. So northeast had 8 individuals qualify and they all ran significantly worse than northwest and southwest region.

I mean it’s fairly known cba’s #3 didn’t run NXR with the flu and a couple more of their guys caught it before nxn, which, believe it or not, doesn’t bode well when flying across the country to race . Doesn’t mean they would’ve got top 3 or 5 or 10, but yeah it’s reasonable to believe based on their season performances they were a better team than they were at nxn.

They are clearly a better team this year than last, as are many teams around the country! Rankings are just for fun and that’s what discussion (and state meets, nxr, and nxn) is for!

Last year Steadman was in Herriman’s top 5 in the first race. At the state meet he didn’t score, and he didn’t run with the varsity at NXR / NXN

If SW or CA top boys teams placed 18th and 21st at NXN, they would be made fun of constantly on here.

CBA 2022 is better than Westfield Brookline and Union Catholic 2023. But CBA 2023 is quite a bit better than 2022.

So what will happen with the southwest girls? I sure hope they get 2 at large bids over California. Last year, they gave California 2 bids, and they sucked it up at nationals. Why does Nike love California so much?
