1) Would it have been possible to do better? Yes, of course it was possible. I'm not aware of any major successes in that period in big Western nations. Maybe Germany. I feel less strong about this.

AFTER that period, I believe the Dems would have saved tens of thousands of lives.

The problem with what you're saying is that Trump knew in January how bad this virus was, and he LIED to the American people about it...and then he called it a Democrat hoax thus politicizing the wearing of masks. So, it's not just about tangible actions, it's about the tone he set for the nation about how seriously to take this virus. He failed on every level.
