Wow, unbelievable. After spending a lot of time around the WKU distance program, I know that Michelle Scott is very well respected and has a great deal of knowledge behind her coaching. Not sure why the head coach would want to get rid of her after all the success she's helped bring to the school. It'll be tough finding someone else with the same passion and drive to replace her.
Not trying to be a prick, but is WKU really that good? Their men were 25th and their women 18th in their region in XC. What am I missing here?
It was only a few years ago that Jenkins was an assistant coach and equal to Murphy-Scott at Western KY. Then Curtis Long "retired" and Jenkins was promoted. Most likely animosity between the former co-assistance (surely they fought over scholarship $ when they were both assistant coaches)
As far as I know, Scott coached only the women's team, and I believe Curtis Long is still in charge of the men. Scott has had a lot of success in the Sun Belt. On a national level, I believe she has had several individual qualifiers over the years. Their low place at regionals this year is probably due to the large number of youngsters on the team. She seemed to start to develop those girls pretty well though as most of them ran huge PR's this year.

Second this. She was underpaid, $34,872, for her level of experience, continuity at WKU, and success. She's had several individuals make Nationals in XC and track. She's one of the few women distances coaches who can both recruit and coach. However, the Head Coach, Erik Jenkins, doesn't make much more than she does, $41,214. With salaries so low, they'll probably have a hard time finding someone as well qualified and knowledgeable and also retaining them. I hope she's not getting out of coaching- she clearly deserves better.
If she is making $34k and Jenkins is making $41k as Head Coach then how much dies Curtis Long make as an "Assistant"?
Jenkins is just like most sprints coaches. Will cut and run on a coach just to save his own ass

If any aspiring head coaches are not applying right now, then they really aren't aspiring at all.
I hate to be the dick in the punchbowl but most people I know who interact with Scott, including her own athletes, say she's a b*tch and is dumb as a rock. If she got canned, it's probably for saying something inappropriate to the wrong person. WKU has done a good job of bringing in some talented foreign athletes, but most of the kids they get in the distance events show moderate improvement at best. Still, I don't see her getting fired for performance, I see her getting fired for being a b*tch.
She probably didnt have a choice but to be a bitc* in order to stand up to Jenkins
And I'm betting Jenkins didn't like that so he canned her ass. Word to the wise, learn to deal with your assistant coaches rather than ruin their lives and fire them. Michelle has been in that area for years and her entire life is set up there
Why the move from UNCC (Conference USA) to Radford (Big South)???
I don't doubt that Jenkins is a worthless figurehead for the WKU CC program and adds no value there, but you don't just piss off your boss. Any half-brained idiot in a real job knows that. Truth is, If Jenkins was officially placed over women's CC and not Scott, then Scott can't be the great coach some here seem to claim. My guess is that shes just another average college coach at best.
Asst Coach to Head Coach XC, and control over all distance recruits. She is a good young coach and why should we care why she moved, maybe it was a family reason.

I'm on the team, and he has been fired. They are currently looking for another coach. Who knows who will be hired.

Team conference championships titles, countless individual champions, regional and national qualifiers, All-American after All-American...all of this at a under funded mid-major. Yep, you guys hit the nail on the head. What an awful coach and leader Coach Jenkins. i dont know how he manages to keep his job. Smdh. What many of you fail to understand (or choose not to) is that college coaching is much more than just writing workouts. So I don't know this women but I recognize and respect the work Coach Jenkins has done. So just because you weren't consulted on the firing (a number of you act like you should have been) does not make it unjustified.
