Correct. But stupid people (including Rojo, unfortunately), took that race --and one or two other out-of-context data-points-- and concluded she 'peaked two years ago,' and was 'heading downhill.'

I really don't understand this either. She had one bad race in 3 years, still won, and yet she still takes negative reviews. In the LetsRun podcast they referenced that her speed ratings on average were dropping this year, so therefore she has regressed...no reference that she wasn't trying to set any course records this year...wasn't pushing hard for an entire race all year until NXN. Speed ratings are a great tool...and they are most effective when runnings are going full out and finishing hard. When Tuohy would cruise the last 2km for most races (not running easy, but certainy not pushing hard), then the speed rating has little reflection on what her running level is at.
THe fact that she ran the same pace at club nats as dudek/starliper did at FL, but for a km longer and in worse conditions, is incredible.

Was it a blip, or was it a strong field?
Ewert obviously didn't run too well at Footlocker, finishing 20 and 30 seconds behind runners she beat last week.
Thorvaldson had possibly the best ever girls XC season from the Rocky Mountain states (including breaking Brie Oakley's record at Liberty Bell and shattering the Eagle Island record at NXR).
Both are fantastic runners in their own rights. Tuohy was obviously #1 this year, but just because the margin was narrow at NXN doesn't mean it wasn't still a strong performance.

In New York you can't qualify for both
And she was part of a good team that had a chance to go to nxn so they competed in nxr New York
Ideally she could have just went out to Portland ran nxn and then did what seemed like a lot of girls did and gone down to San Diego right from there and trains and got ready for Foot Locker
It's really up to Foot Locker to put some automatic qualifiers in for the kids that can't run in both regionals
Judging by the way she bounce back I think if she ran a smart race and didn't try to kill it from the beginning she would have won both. Obviously this year would have been a little tougher if she set up her season right in the past two years she could have done it without anyone even close to her

Only thing I could see was a couple of Runners she beat had 5K PR's in the low 15s
That's certainly way faster than any of the high school girls
But of course the question is how were they running at this time at this event
Yeah I listen to that podcast
They were definitely too focus on just her nxn races
It's true her times are slightly down
But it's also true that if she sticks with it she could definitely have another Surge and get faster than she ever was
Even if she can just stay where she is she'd still be a very competitive NCAA Runner capable of top 5 finishes nationally
If she can run a low 9 3K that could potentially win Nationals same thing with a 15 30-ish 5K
Yeah good point. I think she'll keep working hard and will be a great runner in college
She definitely could get a lot better
It's all priorities. If she really wants to be a pro athlete is definitely opportunity

She's a really good swimmer and I'm sure I can get a lot better at swimming and cycling if she wanted to

I mean for a good point of reference, the woman who finished in 3rd in the race (Carly Macumber) placed 6th and 13th her junior and senior years (2012 and 2013) at NCAA XC Championships during her college career at Kentucky.
7th place Erika Kemp finished 17th her senior year (2016) at NCAA Championships for NC State.
Yet, some idiot on this board said after her close NXN win, Tuohy will never finish higher than 25th at NCAAs.
Funny enough, 20:11 was fourth place at NCAA Championships this year. I’m not saying Katelyn is at that level right now because Taylor Werner finished 4th and is running out of this world right now. But it’s evident Tuohy would be able to mix it up with NCAA girls right now on an XC course.

Do you think these girls are running faster than they did in college
How would you assess how serious these Runners are compared to when they were in college. With them being professionals
I'm not that familiar but I guess they're sponsored by different programs and those programs give them gear and some sort of stipend for running so many races
Yeah I saw some of these Runners had like 15 10 5 K PRS
Just curious what do you think are they at all close to that level currently. Pretty sure that's the qualifying standard 1510.

Cuffe was about 20 seconds off the leader pack at Manchester Road Race that included several sub 15 min 5 k ladies. So she’s in likely 15:20 - 15:30 shape, maybe faster.
Which puts Tuohy in the same range. I wouldn’t be surprised to see her go sub 15:30 if she races at BU or armory this winter. As far as I know she’s done with racing against high schoolers.

15:30 lines right up with Macumber's PR from this summer, so you might be right. Still some fire left in that girl. I feel like they took her along slow this year and the best should be yet to come.

Last I read, she still planned to run enough HS races to qualify to run in NY State meet. Her team also has 2 other good pieces of a DMR - if they find the 3rd like they did last year I bet she tries to help them win NBI.
Tuohy will never finish higher than 25th? Kelsey Chmiel, who Tuohy regularly destroyed, and who would have been a 2 time NXN champ herself if not for Tuohy, just finished 22nd as a freshman.
My point is if she goes to Lehigh to run a 6k why didn't she just stay out west and run footlocker to absolutely stamp herself as the top girl right now. This year she didn't beat everyone.
