When evidence pointed to Galen doing shady crap, did that mean all American runners doped? No? Works the same way with African runners.

Paula Radcliffe had anomalies in her biological passport as well, she just had better lawyers.
When Seb Coe's alleged transfusions went bad and he got taxoplasmosis, he would have failed the biological passport as well.
I am curious: to those who believe that everyone dopes, why even bother watching the sport anymore? I get that these busts can cause cynicism and negativity to invade your worldview, but, like, why even watch and support the sport anymore if you seemingly hate it so much?

Most dominant countries in distance running have easy access to EPO. What a coincidence!?!?!
It’s unfortunate that the ABP system is so opaque and is really only a sign of a smoking gun, not an actual illegal substance present. Just wish there was a perfect system to keep doping out of our beautiful sport

Same reason people watch wrestling even though they know it is fake. Same reason people watch body building competitions even thought they know it is fake.
It is actually easier to watch if you believe everyone is doping versus only some. It is still tragic but less so.

Hmm....I’m not denying that probably a lot of EPO is available in Kenya/Ethiopia. I’m not denying that there wouldn’t be good reason to use it. I’m just denying that ALL Africans are using it.
I personally do believe that most of the big stars aren’t using it, because big stars get tested the most, and once you get tested, you get caught, like Kiptum here.
It is a little frustrating that it took so many years for someone like a Kiprop to get caught. Perhaps he wasn’t doping till the tail end of his career when he started losing fitness?
I don’t know—I just don’t get the point of watching the sport if you think everyone is doping. Do you guys really think that the only reason Ethiopians and Kenyans are better than Americans is because of drugs? I personally believe they’re just better than us physically, and that, yes, some do dope, but some people from all countries dope. Yes, of course there probably is a culture of doping over there in some circles, but I try to have faith the testing will root it out.
I am all in favor of getting more stringent in every country, though, as doping is just about the most frustrating thing that exists in sport.
Complex subject is all I’m trying to say, I guess.

First I think its good we see more doping cases from kenia. Means they at least started to look into it a bit more and are testing better. Still a long way to go though. Secondly Ethiopia and Uganda a much worse than kenia in this sense. I don't know how anyone can or should celebrate their runners when its obvious there is no interest at all to test them. And lastly a lot of runners using PEDs does not mean everyone uses them. Hopefully over the next decade African and Russian (eastern European) runners will be tested on the same (still too low) standard as western ones. This is only good for the sport as the extreme dominance of African runners really diminishes the interest in the sport in most important markets

At some point if you follow the sport close enough and long enough you will change your mind.
It is actually worse to keep watching a sport if you think only some bad apples are cheating the clean athletes. It is actually easier to watch is you know the very top guys are all on PEDs.

We've got a story up on the Kiptum suspension. I talked to Kiptum's agent, Juan Pineda, who said that Kiptum has no idea what he could have done to register an ABP violation.

Fair enough. That would probably be inaccurate if that was my only argument, but my hunch is based on other things beyond just the argument that most Kenyans are dirty. It’s all in the language and other details of some of the posters on here. I’m not saying that all people who think most Kenyans are dirty are racists. I’m just saying a lot on here come off as racist.
I agree with those that say doping busts are good for the sport, since we’re catching the bad guys. I’m actually happy whenever I see someone get busted (it hasn’t happened to a personal hero of mine yet, so we’ll cross that bridge when we get there).
I dunno, I just tend to be of the innocent until proven guilty mindset. If that makes me naive to you guys, then I’m willing to accept that.
Anyways, I’m out to watch some TV and basketball later.

Its not racism, its xenophobia. East African culture is so different from what we know in the US. If a black American born distance runner got caught doping we wouldn't say all black Americans dope, it would be about that one athlete. Some letsrunners think nearly every pro is on drugs though.
