I'm disappointed in the lot of you who cry 'bad parenting' because she was out at 4am. Somehow, none of you put together the fact that the shooting started just after 2am, and she may (justifiably) have felt safer staying inside the Cook Out than trying to head for home past where the two cars were shooting it out. Wouldn't be surprised if she had planned to be home asleep much earlier than 4am.

I've always respected Tyson as a sprinter and seemingly good person. As a father I can't imagine what he is going through. My heart dropped when I read the headline and saw the pic of him and his daughter.

My thoughts are certainly with him and his family.

By Kentucky law, if it's 1st degree wanton endangerment, it is a class D felony. A class D felony has a minimum of 1 year and a maximum of 5 years. Good God, that's all for murdering a child?

Those are just the initial charges to get them off the street. They probably have evidence that these were the guys shooting at the scene, but they don't know yet which bullet hit and killed her. The evidence processing takes time. When they figure out who killed her, that person is going to face stiffer charges.

Yes. The relevant context is that we are responding to a guy who thinks that no one should ever go outside at night for any reason.

We don't know if the "shooting" she referred to around 2am was at the same location, or if it was even gunshots. Her tweet referencing Cook Out was after that one.

It would be nice if law enforcement addressed it at some point.

I'm definitely curious if law enforcement has reports of gunshots earlier in the evening, and if that tweet was from Cook Out (where she was killed) or somewhere else...

just read the twitter account and that tweet struck odd- was there a prompt by someone to get her to tweet this comment or was it a reaction to something going on at 2:19 that made her think someone was going to get their guns and start shooting?

So, when a situation happens, a community cries for justice. But, in this situation, a tragedy takes place that highlights a very real and core problem in our society, and we must not make this a foundation for "justice"???This situation is the truth in our society. Yes, the policy point here is all about justice. There is an innocent young woman dead. And there are other innocents dead, all too often.

I think the facts must continue to come in, but as I said, I don't understand how a 21 year old felon like Dvonta Middlebrooks was walking around free, or if freedom was somehow justified given his past conduct, how supervised release in any way protects the public.

And unlike some of the other comments here, this call for justice supports the young woman's cause and that of her family, because, in the end, getting the few truly rotten apples off the street protects innocent people such as Ms. Gay.

The same theme applies to the murder of Dwayne Wade's cousin. There is no way the two felons involved there should have been in the community. Egad, Dwayne Wade's cousin was out walking a toddler - a toddler in a hail of bullets. And Ms. Gray was merely at a restaurant, no doubt frequented a lot by young people looking to get a quick and cheap bite to eat. These events undermine civil society, and I just wonder, when the community will say enough.

Nowhere does this thread title suggest a grieving/memorial thread. It is too bad that you do not understand this. But, perhaps you do, and you're exactly the "denial" example previously mentioned.

Black Americans shoot other black Americans... it is tweeted seemingly casually. How does this not raise a flag of an epidemic issue. Perhaps, if this issue was not so heavily denied, and actually addressed in public truth, she would be alive today. Perhaps.
