I know that none of the trolls on letsrun actually like the truth but here it is...
1. Fairview HS has always required permits but now they are no longer turning a blind eye. Why you ask? Well, it was because there were 8 teams at the track one morning with around 200 runners there who unfortunately made it impossible for the students at the HS to park. The students complained and boom...there you go. Unfortunately there were about 60 people from the "hobby jogger" group there, but they don't park near the track. Thus you see why their names were run through the mud. Easy to blame because there are more of them. Where were the remaining 140 people? Well that's from Boulder Track Club, Boulder Coaching, Boulder Striders, Hudson Elite, Roots Running, a triathlon group, and a College Team visiting the area.
2. There are big-mouths in the Boulder community that just are not nice people. Plain and simple.
3. What defines "a runner that should be running on the track"? Many from the "hobby jogger" teams actually run faster than many in the local sub-elite groups but don't want to take it so seriously. So... What about the HS students on the JV team? What about a 7 min mile? What about a 6 min mile? What about a 5 min mile? What about a marathoner? What about a 65 year old woman who is nationally ranked? What about an 8 year old? What defines a runner that "deserves the privilege to use a track more than anyone else"? And who are YOU to decide who is a runner or not. Where is that line? It's just so offensive in SO MANY WAYS for someone else to say who deserves to be classified as a runner and who is more worthy than someone else. You know who gets to decide in this case who gets to use the track? Right - a permit does. The problem is that every group in the area has been flocking to this one track that turns a blind eye. But when 200 people show up of a morning and all of the HS parking spots are taken...there is a problem for sure. It doesn't matter that x group has 10 and y group has 25. Added up you could have literally hundreds of runners showing up.
4. All of the above groups take money from their members to fund the club. Even "non-profits" pay their owner. There isn't a single group listed above (with the exception of the visiting college) where the athletes don't pay their coach - plain and simple.
5. Oh...and no body jumped fences or broke into restrooms that morning from Boulder Track Club or Revolution Running. I don't see Mrs. "55 year old retired teacher" spouting profanity and being disrespectful to other athletes or "Mr. 40 year old engineer" trying to crack a lock on a bathroom". Don't trust everything that comes out of someones mouth. It's easy to make up lies to hurt others for sure.
6. It's actually a really easy process to get a permit so everyone just needs to suck it up and do it the right way. I really don't understand why everyone is griping so much.
7. People who are petty, hurtful, and disrespectful to others are just horrible. A community is important and I don't understand why people have to be so mean over something that literally isn't a big deal. There are clubs in other parts of the country with 500-1000 people. No one gets their panties in a wad there and everyone can get along. Stop the trash talk and get on with life.
8. Rule of the day - just be nice to others. Why the hate, why the anger? It is at the end of the day - running.
