Right, now it's April. I understand that Netflix has stuff that comes and goes, so any recommendations of current NF stuff?
Or, again: Any recommendations of current/recent TV and movies, whether they're on Netflix or not? I can get a lot of stuff from the public library (there's a nice branch of the NYPL literally across the street from me), even if it's not a Netflix offering (or not a current offering, anyway).
Here's what I've seen recently:
Five Came Back--Maybe not quite as good as an exceptionally glowing review that I read of it, but very good nevertheless: five Hollywood film directors who served in WWII, and its effect on their moviemaking. Some really great archival footage.
The Night Manager--One of my daughters insisted on this one. Good story, adapted (liberally) from John le Carré's novel; outstanding production values; fine acting. I was impressed by how Hugh Laurie made his character something more than just "the worst man in the world."
The OA--This one was just a little freaky, and I can understand why a few of the critics didn't like it, but it definitely grabbed me.
The Man in the High Castle--Amazon, right? I'm up-to-date on this one, which has had two seasons so far. Pretty sure I read the novel many years ago, but this show is almost unrecognizably different. I actually preferred the second season over the first in some respects...better acting from some of the cast, I thought. Really striking visually.
The production values of all these shows are just amazing. Is this another Golden Age of television?
On a retro note, I checked out the 1995 BBC Pride and Prejudice, which some people consider the best TV adaptation of Jane Austen. Should be starting it this weekend.
Anyway, again: What does Netflix (or anyone else) have that I should be seeing? I've really appreciated earlier suggestions and have moved ahead on some--haven't finished them, so don't want to comment yet!
THANKS to all for sharing your recommendations--appreciate it!
