Even slight contact from behind when your plant foot is being raised will send you off balance falling on your face, which is what happened to Uceny. She got hit, lost her balance and hit her other leg which sent her to the track.

Damn I return home from the meet and finally log on tonight and what was clear as day from my perspective sitting 10 rows up directly up from where she falls and my eyes were focused on Morgan as I was watching her move closer to the front. McGee clearly steps on Uceny's foot. Morgan was on as much as I could tell watching very intently a straight line so no deviation to the left as some have speculated. Foul 100%. Really glad Morgan isn't hurt. I probably screamed louder in angst for her misfortune than anyone. But part of my screaming is her inability to correct this technical flaw that while not fully responsible is no doubt causing a higher likelihood of such collisions.
Had exact same position in London when she fell, just higher up and also in Zurich 2010 when she went down and DNF'd. The falls 2-4 years ago had me pay careful attention to her technique. As I watch her warm up even just a minute or so before the start I notice her doing drills that over emphasize backside mechanics. If you do analysis of her form you will see she leaves the leg extended long as she pushes off rather than trying to recover the foot by utilizing her quad more and pulling foot quickly under her butt.
Would improved technique have prevented all of these falls? No but it certainly has contributed in my opinion and all too frequent vantage point.

hard to tell in video if anyone trips her, but very clearly shows her vearing left right before she falls!!! I mean that is the one thing that is clear!
I have to disagree from a mechanical stand point. Most people that run with back kick also runs with a forward lean which means they are running the entire race off balance. If you are kicking back you are impeding the person behind you space so it is your fault if they step on your foot and you fall down. You would have to run maybe 2 meters behind this person to not clip their foot depending on how bad the back kick is. Her and her coach have to correct this or she will keep falling down. The packs are too tight for bad mechanics
Besides that, Uceny seemed to swerve two feet to her right immediately before she fell, so if she was caught, it was her own fault.
If you look at each incident separately, it seems like accidents and bad luck. But big picture, there is something she is doing which is making this happen. It may be her technique or just pack awareness. How many times have other American elites fallen in races in the last few years? How many times has Lagat fallen in his entire career.
Cyclists talk about riding in packs and they specifically learn how to do so.
Her coach should be addressing her falling specifically. For instance, run intervals with male runners - 3-4 at a time.
I agree 1000 percent, her focus has to be on not falling down anymore. All of her workouts should be done in pack simulation form if possible. Practice how you play

Again, runners need to give each other competitive room to run, regardless of their mechanics. The lack of guidance given to the runners in regard to acceptable positioning by the "governing" bodies in T&F is simply astounding.
I would also add that the situation is only going to get worse without guidance, since the sport is increasing in depth at the elite level. The gap between first and last place will only get smaller going forward, making the packs even more bunched. Action is required, and sooner rather than later.
