Writing a paper about letsrun message board community

I know quite well that opinions are not valid in research, and most school papers. They are opinions. They are biased.

The OP stated a report was assigned. Later the OP called it an essay. Think for a moment about why that switch was made.

As someone who has been a Letsrun reader since almost the beginning I thought I’d throw in my 2 pennies.

As erik the LRC web guy has learned, the racist/misogynous posts do not come from the Letsrun community at large, but from a miniscule cadre of malignant cretins. Perhaps less than 12 very persistent trolls produce 98% of all of the racist posts. Maybe 30-40 produce all of the sexist posts. Whenever you read crude and lewd comments like “I’d hit that” on the message boards, you know it’s from some needledick little boy who’d piss his pants long before he’d ever summon up enough courage to actually chat up a woman.

Anyone who believes that Letsrun is racist or sexist is a fool. You only read what spews forth from the demented minds of a few. You don’t read what the 10s of thousands who don’t post racist/sexist shit don’t say.

Those who suggest that the OP regurgitate specific childish threads needs to STFU now and forever. He’s supposed to write an essay about the phenomenon of social media, drawing from personal experience. Writing crap about a Coffee Shop Girl isn’t going to interest anyone but a few pimple poppers. He’d surely get an “F” if he did, and hopefully mercilessly ridiculed by his teacher and peers. The last thing our sport needs if for someone to affirm the perception that runners are a bunch of socially retarded misfits who spend all day repeating tired running memes.

I’d suggest that the OP focus on the psychology of anonymous internet posting, and the ways that internet social media differ from actual social interactions. Possible delve into how this altered state of socialization might be affecting society as a whole now, and in the future.

If you had this site where you had to use your FB to post it would be terribly boring.

The same could be said for runners who train long distances running alone. Staring at the ground and running for hours isn't interacting with people, it's the opposite, avoiding people.
