Yeah but Tiffin was an NAIA school back in 2004. Their qualifier would not have qualified in division III. Yeah it sounds like Jeremy Croy is beating his own drum.
As for having D II qualifiers, Tiffin is in one of the toughest regions in the country. The only one that is probably more competitive is the RMAC.

To answer the questions about Siena, it's posted on the NCAA web site. (If you can't find it at this point, you probably can't get the job.)
The department DOES care about how the program performs athletically (and academically), but not enough that they're willing to pay more.
Joanne Dow took the position in August and is now headed elsewhere. With what they're paying, it's going to be hard for them to find anyone who will stay for long.
The upside: Great area for recruiting. Team members who want to get better. Some scholarship money. Decent academic scholarships at the school. Program is improving each year, so you'll look good if you are a decent coach.
The down side: No track program. The pay (I'd guess in the 16-18k range. No benefits.) Decent school. Not as good training options as you would expect, unless you drive to your starting point.
Uh, no. You are wrong about that. They had an individual who placed 23rd in the D2 chamnpionships that year and was one of one of only two individuals to qualify out of that region. Earlier that spring they had another individual D2 qualifier in that competed at the D2 National meet in the steeple chase (9:11 qualifier) and the follwing they had a different runner also qualify in the steeplechase (9:07 qualifier-still the school record.

Manhattan went with a HS coach from the chsaa to drum up recruits from the metro Catholic schools- not a bad idea

Does anyone know what happened to Coach Pittman at Howard University? I don't think they gave him too much of a chance.
The above linked article references Coach Pittman being out on medical leave. I sincerely hope he is ok. "Jeter" as Coach Pittman was known to us as Kent State was a volunteer assistant when I was an athlete there in the mid-80's. As I recall, he had been a teammate of our coach, Orin Richburg and we all liked him.

Found it shortly after I asked...for some reason it wasn't popping up on the sites before I posted and I was wondering if that was old news since I remembered it from last summer (surprise, more turn-over). And I will not be applying. Not that I'm too good, I just don't want to commit career suicide. Any school that doesn't sponsor track and doesn't pay full time expects you to babysit...and doesn't expect you to compete athletically. They may be improving, but that kind of ceiling will quickly be reached.... But in all seriousness, best of luck to the kid who gets it as their first gig after being a GA or volunteer, totally understand using that as a stepping stone and then GETTING OUT after a year, two years TOPS! However, I noticed they're "preferring" someone local...probably so they don't leave every year.
Now I'm hearing that Siena might just be looking for someone temporary (to take care of the team for the remainder of the year). So maybe there will be a full search at the end of the academic year.
In the past, they've been the kind of school that knew they needed a new coach in April but didn't hire someone until late August.
I think the saddest part about Siena is not just that they cut that position down to part time (used to be XC/intramurals but full time) but that they get applicants as qualified/strong as they do for the terrible pay. It just goes to show how desperate so many people are to work their way up through the college coaching ranks.
It's a place to start- prove you're competent and then get a real job.
I started in a similar place, worked construction in the morning and coached in the afternoon- within 3 years I was a full time XC/track head coach- got my masters for free to boot
Any word on the Lipscomb job yet? How about Toledo? Any others that may open this spring?

Toledo - Prob hire with in and bring in another event coach

Why would you assume Texas Women would be open? Brimmer and Sisson have been there a good while and have the results to back up their being retained.

Don't know that, sorry. Do know that all of the 15 have been contacted and asked for supplemental questions, the answers to which will be used to narrow it down to 5-8 for reference and phone interviews. After that, they'll take 2-4 for campus interviews.

Well I guess I am out... I did not get any requests for more information. I am surprised I thought at least I would get into the interview round had all the qualifications plus have coached several National Champs must be some really good candidates. Good Luck to those still in the running.
Join the club. If you are new to the market, then you may be scratching your head on many candidates chosen for positions.
I would say 90% of the time in the college coaching business, its all about who you know. Atleast from what I've seen.
