LeMond is absolutely the correct answer. He had a host of health problems as his career came to an end, but the fact that he couldn't keep up with the drug cheats certainly hastened his exit from the sport.
you obviously dont know ANYTHING about the sport, im just a hobby rider, who helps out with mid level youth hopefuls. i never competed but I KNOW MORE THAN YOU DO. oh and he never tested positive cause PEDs and EPO are just placebos anyways.

Yeah, "Mr. Clean" is pretty much the only one you could argue was clean-ish with a straight face - the CERA positives during the first week of the 2008 Tour might have forced a lot of riders to back off and allow natural ability to decide the race for once. But even with the most amazing talent in the world, could you really be a regular top six stage race rider in the 2000s if you were clean?
The '86 pre-accident LeMond is the next one I could believe.

What always made me give sastre some credit was that he had bad days. He went up the big hills at his own pace and was quite consistent, but in a seemingly more natural way than the rest.

Oh good find -- when did I say that, in 2012? Looks like that happened in a test one week after I posted this. I see a story from 2008 too -- I guess I missed that one then, but he was cleared by his federation.
