You understand that this is all Salazar and training with Rupp (who, before injury, really was in sub-13/sub-27 shape, which why Ritz was "amazed" by the speed of the interval workouts)? Ritz WAS soft, and he'd have continued to be stagnate for the rest of his career, if he'd listened to you and other cheerleaders. It was the hard truth of people telling that he sucked that got him out of his comfort zone.

If you think any coach in the world can coach someone to a 12:56 in 9 weeks then you are an idiot. Al Sal took advantage of the great shape that Dathan was obliviously in when he kicked A in the USA championships. The work that DATHAN has put in over the last SEVERAL YEARS is what got him to a 12:56 not Al Sal.
As Al Sal implied in the article, Hudson deserves the credit, he put some chocolate sprinkles on the cake and it all came together. Now with Ritz, Rupp, and Webb training together...yikes!

Not so fast, you're retarded, Kenenisa Bekele has never broken 4:01 for a mile and he is the world record holder. There are lots of sub 13 min 5k guys who just never tried to run a sub 4 min mile. Before you reply that his 1500 converts you are right it does, but if you go by converted times then Dathans has run 3:42 for the 1500 which is arguably under 4. And if you use that Mcmillan converter that everyone on the site posts about all the time a 12:56 converts to a 3:44 mile. Either way it is not a real sub 4 performance if don't run 5280 feet in less than 4 min.
if you don't think ritz can run considerably under 4 for the mile, in the sub 3:55 range, you are an f'ing idiot.
I watched Ritz, Teg, Hall, and Webb in hs at a couple of national xc and track meets. They were so impressive (Teg came out of nowhere and the others were well known). After Ritz and Teg ran so well at World Junior XC, even more excitement! The enthusiasm for potential changes in American distance running was on the way. Now Webb holds the AR in the mile, Teg in the 2 mile, Ritz in the 5k, and Hall in the 1/2 marathon. Obviously, any or all of them could break the 10k in the next year or two. What is even more exciting is that the next group may even be better. Rupp, Fernandez, Derek, etc. Please everyone who loves to accuse of drugs, be quick to criticize because we aren't with the Africans, quit the negativity!!! This is genuinely the most excitement since the 70's for American distance running.

KB's 3000m time of 7:25.79 is 3:59 pace for 7.5 laps. He's already run a sub 4 mile. He just didn't bother to stop after 5,280 ft.

The answer is yes: in 1982, Alberto Salazar ranked 8th in the world in the 5,000 and 2nd in the 10,000. Furthermore, he ranked #1 in the world in the marathon for 1982. At that point, only two other runners in 36 years of T&F News rankings - Emil Zatopek in 1952 and Lasse Viren in 1976 - had achieved world rankings in the 5k/10k/marathon in the same year.
You guys have a short memory. Bruce Bickford ranked #! in the 10,000 and #10 in he 5,000 in 1985! Thus he was the last American that I can think of that did that. I believe that Ritz will follow him as a 2 event world ranker this year. Plus he is a lock for a 3 event US ranking in the 5,10,marathon.

While I'd love to see that, where would he do it? There aren't any meets after September and I don't know of any with a 10,000 scheduled.

In all fairness, I did actually call for a 13:11 in this race as I figured we should give him a little time with Salazar before going for those records, but I'm not shocked he did it. I've said all along he has it in him to do it, and I still say his ceiling is right around 12:50; dangerously close to that now eh?
1) That post of mine is a simple "I told you so". Well deserved after the crap I took for that prediction (when Ritz's PR was about 13:22 too I might add).
2) You won't have to wait until 2016 before the DOW is back to 14,000 (LATE 2007 by the way..October). It will happen sooner than that. BUT, it won't require an "I told you so" because I've said all along I don't care if it ever gets back there. I will have enough. Long term investing is where it's at brother.
