11/6 update: Statement from USA Track & Field on the arrest of Dan Bowdoin:
This week, USA Track & Field was made aware of the arrest and charges against Dan Bowdoin, COO of Athletic.net. We have been informed by Athletic.net that Dan is no longer with the organization and does not have access to any client information. While USATF engages with Athletic.net as a vendor, our relationship is with that organization and not any specific employees of the organization. USATF takes the safety of its constituents extremely seriously. We are committed to ensuring individuals doing business with this federation are subject to meticulous background checks annually and annual certification from the U.S. Center for SafeSport. The most recent background check on Mr. Bowdoin was completed prior to these charges being made public. He has not been credentialed by USATF to attend an event since 2023. The allegations against this individual are reprehensible. While the legal process continues, we affirm that such conduct has no place in this sport. We will not be making any additional comments at this time.
Statement from Athletic.net CEO Ross Krempley: We were made aware on October 18, 2025 that an employee had been charged with multiple felony offenses. Although the individual was arraigned on those charges in January, the company had no prior knowledge of the matter. Upon learning of the charges, the employee was immediately placed on administrative leave pending further review. As of October 27th, he is no longer with the company. To the best of our knowledge, the employee only attended four events in 2025, none featuring minor-aged participants. As legal proceedings are ongoing, we will not be making further public comment at this time.
I work as a victim's rights advocate for survivors of CSA. There is no reason why the level of detail you included about the abuse of a child should be included on a public forum. The victim is identifiable from public documents and some of the details you included are wrong based on public court records - two more good reasons your comment should have been deleted.
Protecting victims isn't the same as protecting the perpetrator.
This level of detail is exactly what needs to be shared to raise awareness and prevent it in the future. There are currently several coaches/officials etc that have committed similar crimes and they’re walking free because of “advocates” like you who want to display sexual assault like it’s a trip to an amusement park.
Discussing in which orifices a near-toddler was raped by an adult does nothing to prevent a different adult from raping a different child because adults already know they're not supposed to rape children in any orifice with any object or any body part. There are no grey zones here. This isn't "It's okay for a coach to pat an athlete on the shoulder but not okay to pat an athlete on the butt." You don't need to know the explicit details of a child's rape to condemn the perpetrator. It's incredibly weird to insist on discussing the explicit details in a public forum - in all my years of professional work in this area, I've never encountered someone who wanted to discuss child rape in explicit detail who wasn't a pedophile. (Interest in knowing the broad outlines of what someone is charged with is common; insisting on discussing the explicit sexual details of a child's rape on a public forum is not normal.)
You mentioned several times in this thread that you are personally aware of multiple individuals who are engaged in similar behavior to what Dan is charged with. Call law enforcement. That's the action that can prevent current or future abuse, and help hold predators accountable for their horrific actions.
So it appears that the arrest took place on November 2, 2025. That means this just came to light. Unless there was a report made to USATF or the other entities before this, I am not sure how they can be blamed for something that has just come to light.
Did you not see the part about him being arraigned in January?

I refuse to believe you’re a professional in anything since your reading comprehension skills lack this much. You missed the entire point of my thread - this needs to be discussed on the front page. Stop burying and sugarcoating these situations just because you’re uncomfortable with them. Stop using acronyms and type out what you claim to be.
CSA - Child Sexual Assualt
Unalived - Suicide
Do you see where I’m going with this?
There are over 60,000 sexual abuse cases a year (that actually get reported) and you’re convinced that all adults know they shouldn’t be engaging in them. “Let’s just make it illegal so they stop.” No - these sickos don’t understand the gravity of what they have done. Mostly because it’s not condemned enough because “professionals” like you spend too much time with nonsense instead of real prevention.
After self reporting and spending several weeks in custody, Dan wrote a judge asking permission to be around thousands of kids again! He did this after speaking with a “professional” therapist. Does this sound like a person that has any idea the gravity of what he had done?
First, the audacity to ask to time these High School meets, after somehow getting release, is astounding. When FOS lists the second judge as being incredulous at the request, and him even being out, my thoughts exactly, judge.
The other issue is what he did in the year he was out. He was still working in the sport, even if remotely. That means... Every Entry fee percentage paid via A-Net Every Timer who paid to use their Live Results platform Every HS State Association who paid to use their qualifying system Every meet at Hayward that paid him to time their meet
That money was used to pay his bail. All their customers supported his release, albeit unknowingly. And don't tell me his own brother didn't notice his need for a lawyer, his need for a chaperone, and a divorce in that time.

Ridiculous.
Most importantly the mothership of his employment! Don't forget "site supporters" who paid for a "free" service.
An individual is presumed innocent until being found guilty in a court of law. The problem I have with Safe Sport is there is a presumption of guilt. There are such things as false accusations (see Duke lacrosse).
Right now I’m reading Grisham’s:
Framed: Astonishing True Stories of Wrongful Convictions
I recommend reading it.
Presumption of guilt in rape charges has been the norm for many years.
The allegations of such conduct are reprehensible.
Charges have been filed. The alleged has been arraigned.
Unless prosecutorial misconduct and malicious prosecution has occurred, the case seems to be proceeding based on some merit. Otherwise the charges would not have been filed.
If it's true, how many unreported instances exist? If it's true, there is a dark cloud hanging over USATF, runnerspace and athletic.net.
This statement looks even worse as more details emerge from both documents and people within the track and field community. The general consensus is that Ross knew as early as 2024. Around that time, Dan’s role changed almost overnight. It’s extremely hard to believe his brother didn’t know. The fact that Dan was accompanied by a therapist or friend should’ve raised concerns, too. And calling him simply “an employee” in the release is misleading—he was the COO of Athletic, the parent company of RunnerSpace, Athletic.net, and Dyestat.
Dan attended several events with minors. Those athletes are listed in results with their grade and age, and several meets he attended have since scrubbed his name from their pages. That’ll probably disappear too now. Calling this to “set the record straight” is a massive stretch. Also the coldness of this statement is mind boggling. No acknowledgement of the victim, no denouncing how abhorrent the allegations are, and no mention of any company values.
Their statement is baffling. If nothing else, they are admitting that they knew for almost three weeks. How is this the best statement you can come up with in three weeks of knowing about these horrible and disgusting charges. Not only was this the best statement they could prepare but it also took them 9 days for him to “no longer be with the company”. Sure, don’t assume guilt but do some semblance of research and find out that he self reported. If FOS can discover it, you surely should be able to. He should have been gone the day they discovered the charges. If you want to be generous, give them a day. But 9? Good grief. This is giving them the benefit of the doubt that they didn’t realize it was odd that their COO dramatically changed his role, got divorced, and constantly had his “male chaperones” with him, which seems like a lot especially as his brother has a role within the company. Certainly the faults of one employee shouldn’t in and off itself be reflective of the organization they work for but given his role and the company’s response (or lack thereof), their has to be more accountability than this.
This is a massive tragedy on so many levels affecting so many different people and parties. It's extremely difficult to reconcile how Dan had this other side to himself. Dan was a nice guy and very religious and from a deeply religious family. His father and grandfather were both pastors see
. The family has deep connections to a Christian school in Grans Pass called New Hope Christian School. Some of his brothers went on Christian missions to China.
It's a little disingenuous USATF, OSAA, and others act like Dan was some random employee. He was the founder of Athletic Timing which was initially operated as a separate business before it joined up with Athletic. If they search their emails, they will find a lot of emails exchanged with him.
David, Dan, and his brothers all worked together building Athletic. From a technology perspective, Athletic has done some good things to the industry. David had a dream of centralizing results and I feel he largely accomplished it.
Dan is looking at likely 25 years in prison if convicted of the child rape charges due to Oregon's minimum sentencing guidelines.
Does anyone know what happened for him to all of sudden be sent to jail? Weird that this was all swept under the rug for so long and then all of a sudden, this week, he gets arrested and the news breaks.
For those that like to research things a little more, I meant to write "Grants Pass" not "Gant Pass". Dan's Dad in addition to being a pastor was the principal at New Hope Christian (see story here https://newswithviews.com/BreakingNews/breaking20.htm)
Dan's brother David who founded Athletic is the Track and Field coach at New Hope Christian.
This is so awful in so many ways. But something happened to Dan in his past that caused him to do this
