How do they let you time the event?

In my experience, safesport sounds good in theory but in reality they charge some fees to be certified. Keep a database and that’s it.

So pay your $20 dollars and take your refresher courses!

An individual is presumed innocent until being found guilty in a court of law. The problem I have with Safe Sport is there is a presumption of guilt. There are such things as false accusations (see Duke lacrosse).

The intent of safesport is great in theory. I agree that they begin with a presumption of guilt. It is unreal to me how powerful they have become in a short time. Again, intent is good and application is a joke.

Anyone know who he raped? The charges are 1st degree which is about as bad as you can get. Also, charges for sodomy. Did he go Jerry Sandusky on some poor kid?

Isn’t the founder David Bowdoin? Is this a misunderstanding of the name or does he go by Daniel as well?

Tired to look this up myself, the Bowdoin mentioned doesn’t have affiliation, David bowdoin is the one that runs A-net. Unless there’s something I’m missing here

Agree! Intent is good application a joke. I know of at least 3 cases where people were “investigated” without even being told what the investigation is about. Hard to defend yourself if you don’t know what you’re defending. Two of them had their reputations trashed because of the procedure and then told they were good! The third challenged the accusations, asked for a hearing and was refused. Appeal denied. Then they were put on “secret probation”. So result was not announced to the membership. Didn’t even know there was such a thing!

Is there an actual source for OP's post? Guilty until proven innocent is bad enough, but guilty based on anonymous Internet posts is even worse.

I had a friend in the USAF who was brought up on a date-rape charge, he probably would have been convicted (he took a drunk girl to her apartment, walked her in and left, she claimed she was raped by him), except for the fact that his roommate had was under suspicion of dealing drug, so both of them were being surveilled by AFOSI, and right before the court marshal they closed the drug case, which allowed the investigator to enter his logs into the rape case. The logs showed he was in and out of the apartment in less than a minute. In the end, it seems that she drunkenly left the apartment and went to another bar.

SafeSport's jurisdiction here is a little gray. Contractors who have regular contact and authority could fall under its jurisdiction. Just how much contact does a time official have with youth and what authority does the person have over them? There could be an extreme case of a quid pro quo: I will mess up your time if you don't have sex with me, but that seems pretty unlikely for many reasons.

If he worked a USATF event then it is more problematic in that it is an NGB. The others are private entities that SafeSport really does not have jurisdiction over.

No one named Bowdoin is listed in the SafeSport disciplinary database. Maybe no one has submitted a report to them?

PS: not sure why the OP added police as failures. If charges are filed, it appears they did their job.

Dan Bowdoin is the founder of Athletic, COO, and serves as the CEO of Athletic Timing. He was the public-facing leader for Athletic.net. I don't think David has been involved for quite some time.

So it appears that the arrest took place on November 2, 2025. That means this just came to light. Unless there was a report made to USATF or the other entities before this, I am not sure how they can be blamed for something that has just come to light.

Using the helpful information posted by unsafe_sport above, you can look up the docket, and it shows that charges were filed on 11/27/24 but wasn't taken into custody until 11/3/25.

SafeSport is a joke. They aren't standing outside meets and not letting people in. They aren't at practices making sure coaches aren't doing anything inappropriate. Taking SafeSport is like taking a grooming how to guide. It's a joke that it's required for anyone and laws aren't good enough. If you are willing to break the law then Safesport isn't going to be some type of extra protection.
