one of the funniest and most human problems with dating apps is that apparently many women use them not as a dating app, but as a way to get compliments so they feel better about themselves. And maybe get a little erotic charge.

I think it's true that:
To women, only 20% of men are attractive.
While to men, 80% of women are attractive.
This causes issues.
That's because as a male species we're so horny. 😉 An unattractive, ugly woman who isn't substantially overweight looks very good to desperate, thirsty guys. In fact, as a sub-5, short guy, those are the kind of women I try to pursue. But what I'm finding is that these unattractive women with decent bodies can easily date some pretty looking guys several points higher than them.
There's this Chadlite dude at my guy: good face (he's got that stylish Greek looking type beard), about 5'9" muscular, aesthetic physique. His GF is unattractive - downright ugly (on top of that she has a nose ring, purple colored hair, tons of tats) but she has a nice body & is an avid lifter like her BF. It's funny though, he seems embarrassed of her. Lol.
For a variety of reasons most of us know, women have a lot more options now. And instead of men stepping up their game to say, hey, I’m a good option and here’s why you should choose me - it’s just a bunch of whining.
I think men also need to pursue higher education/degrees and focus on $ and business as well. Some guys need to quit playing video games too...
College/degrees are still gatekeepers and indicators of success to women.

I have found many dates and short-term girlfriends through online dating, as well as a couple of long-term relationships, one of which led to y being engaged. So I would say dating apps were a positive part of my late 20s and early 30s.
How did this work so well? Sure as heck not due to my looks.
Nothing more than an interesting and unique profile, as well as some effort and wit in early messages. (I would never mention my work and income as a doctor until quite a way into a new interaction.)
I tend to think that if someone is "failing" online it is not due to looks, but due to level of effort and certain social skills (a.k.a. "game" but with sincerity.)

Im truly a pretty average guy that used to think I just wasnt cut for the online dating game. But then I went from getting very few matches to getting overflowed with matches (hundreds in a few months, and with rly nice girls), by shifting my focus a bit.
The key for me was very simple. It's to have a profile that signals that you are a guy with some self awareness that also lives a fun and interesting life, which the girl will want to be part of.
My tips: > Don't even try to show off in the slightest, girls see through it in a second. > Include a photo of something very random but interesting, that says something about you. You are not in the pic, but it will be a conversation starter. > Show your authentic smile. Where it's genuine, often it's not the one where you think your smile looks the best. > Include a photo where you do something fun with your friends.
That's really it. I have just 4 pics in my profile. No muscles, no expensive cars, no divine jawline. Just a more genuine and likeable profile.
