The slowest guy (other than local runners) has a 3:30.60 PB. I wonder if Strand and J. Koech even tried.
In addition, Jakob, Kerr, Hocker, Habz (??), P Koech, Mills, Nader… are all missing from the starting list. There seriously needs to be a stronger Golden league system. Top guys can’t get into these DL races. It’s too crowded and as Reddy! said, the field is already too big. Someone will fall for sure.
You’re so sure those guys tried to get in? Jakob withdrew, Kerr/Hocker didn’t, Mills still hurt, Nader likely didn’t try, and it seems Phanuel Koech didn’t try either. The only rejection I’ve heard of is Olli Hoare (which is deserved).
Olli Hoare is now listed as running. Tbh, it's a field that is around his level right now

It’s cuz Laros dropped out. Which stinks. No offense to Olli but I’d be surprised if he beats anyone but the Poles
It's good to have Ray Flynn as your agent. Especially when he also has Yared Nuguse which he clearly leverages into continued starts for Hoare because it's definitely not on current merit. The way the circuit has and always will work (and I'm not sure it's a good thing).
Also re: Laros - really interesting. Would be hard to imagine it's injury related because he's raced so infrequently this year and must be in prime shape. I wonder what his strategy is heading into worlds in terms of these last 3-4 weeks. I think that with a long season like this one it's going to be a covert advantage to be slightly under-raced heading into Tokyo vs over-raced.

I’d say it’s not a good thing! Granted I don’t know who’s not getting into this meet and deserving, but a 16-person field isn’t ideal.

You serious dawg? You don’t need a heavy racing schedule to get injured, training can do the trick just fine.
Why is Hoey racing the 1500? Does he not want to just race the 800? Seems like overkill. Or maybe he thinks he won't win the DL final so he is just racing everything he can.

Maybe, but he did race 6 times in twenty days in July, including two 5ks. He might be a little burnt out, or deliberately cutting back to avoid burn out
