Just make it simple sir for all the folks on this forum!!!!!!!!!!!!
Anybody or anything coming out of America, whether an American sprinter, middle distance, long distance, marathoner, ultra-marathoner are all squirrel-minded who ducks the pressure and capitulate under expectations. They also frequently find safety net in drugs and whatnot you feelin me????????? Trump is putting the ship right so it will be some time before we see another real honorable man like Jim Ryun or Steve Scott alright!!!!!!
Actually China is the same as America but the difference is China has nobody to put the ship right yet!!!!!! Athletes are all on drugs there too!!!!!
The previous record was set by Tim Olson on a historically cool day. Jim beat his time by almost 40 minutes on a day that was 20-30 degrees warmer. He has the record in spite of race day conditions, not because of them.
He'd probably run close to 13:30 if he got a 70 degree day like 2012.
It was actually only 12 degrees warmer....good try tho
One thing I've found interesting is how inactive Walmsley is on social media. He hasn't posted on IG in 2 months, nothing on X in 2025. Never interacts with fans. Total recluse weirdo.
260k followers on IG compared to Killian's massive 1.8mil following... The Killian brand has massive value. If one day Killian flames out, he could probably make a fortune shilling and doing paid ads for the highest bidder.
Oh, he's on Insta a lot, clicking likes. I know because he likes a lot of posts of the same people that I follow across road cycling, mountain biking, climbing, and cross country skiing. I think we could be best buds if he were my neighbor because we have a lot of interests in common.
he absolutely used to be. He was kinda a pioneer with Strava back in the day. He also interacted well on SM. He got so popular for a reason. There have always been fast runners - but he just had the personality to fit it all.
But tbh, that time was when he was with the Coconino Cowboys. After he left the cowboys, he seems to have changed a lot. Fan interaction ceased. The “fun go-lucky” vibe he put out ended. He kinda just turned into this dude that runs fast, idk. Heck, he even used to do weekly runs with his fans in flag.
Weird thing tbh - a lot of ppl thought he left the cowboys because he needed to professionalize more or whatever. But turns out he needed them just as much as they needed him. A bummer tbh. Idk all the details of what happened and stuff. Just calling it out.
Totally agree with this. It's just strange how he was once so active and appreciative of his fans, and now he doesn't interact at all.I gotta think his sponsors would love if he was still posting more.
I think he built up such a loyal fan base from his first few years in the sport, that he has been able to get away with it, but I feel like the way he's handling this DNS has not been well received. People can say "private person," or whatever, but he's a professional athlete, and should update the fans on why the most anticipated matchup in the sport of ultrarunning in the last few years, isn't happening anymore.
He didn't do weekly runs in Flag with his fans, he showed up at times to the Bagel Run but that run ended up stopping. No clue why it went away but it wasn't Jim's run. He is still a pretty social, interactive person if you catch him at a race or bump into him when he's in town. Best thing he ever did was get away from the Coconino Cowboys.
Not true. He and the cowboys did runs starting at the brewery in Flag. They did it almost weekly. Bagel run was a different thing. Why do you think getting away from the cowboys was a good thing? Curious as to why you think that.

So being inactive on social media makes you a recluse weirdo now? Good lord, get a grip.
FWIW I met the guy at Broken Arrow last year (week before Western States) after finishing well behind him in the VK, it was a completely normal finish line conversation other than the fact that the guy is one of the best ultrarunners in the world. You'd think that a recluse weirdo wouldn't hang around chatting with other runners for 20+ minutes.

I'm no expert on sponsorships and ultrarunning contracts but I'd think sponsors would monitor social media closely and even mandate some minimum number of posts. FWIW the only reason I ever tried HOKA was because of Sage Canaday's vids, not Jim Walmsley, and I doubt Sage is getting paid as much as Jim. And whether you like it or not, there is a massive community aspect to ultrarunning and all the top tier runners have their own "brand" (including eViL sOcIaL mEdIa) to help sustain themselves. Yes, Walmsley is a great performer but nowadays I always hear "about him" rather than "from him".
Huge fan of walmsley. And 2018 was before the course got buffed out and fast. Now, the course is unrecognizably fast and buffed out. Very little technical compared to pre-2019.
I realize this is a big swing, but since the ultra running news cycle has been relatively slow over the last week, here it goes… Any chance Jim dropping from WSER could be a sponsor/contract dispute? As in maybe another shoe company made an offer, Hoka wouldn’t match, so Jim is playing a massive card in his deck: no exposure at arguably the brand’s biggest/second biggest race of the year, no Unbreakable film, etc.
Again, I know nothing and this is all pure speculation, but Salomon axed most of their North American trail athletes, Adidas Terrex cut a bunch and had some other big names jump (Tom Evans). I just wonder if one of those two might be trying to position themselves to make a run at Jim.

Zero chance of any of that nonsense being true. He's simply ducking the competition. The amount of hype I've seen recently about Killian returning to WSER100 is insane. People are going crazy over this. If Walmsley were to lose to the GOAT, it would be a massive blow to his credibility and mental health. Also, how desirable is Walmsley to a sponsor nowadays anyways? He's barely visible. A company plows a bunch of money into him to get what, a couple shots of him wearing their shirt?
I am no math wiz but uhh thats a bit more than 12 degrees lol
Actually, nitbag, you said earlier he set it by 40 minutes...means you're talking about his 1409 in 2019....when it was 83 degrees.
Good try tho
I didn't say anything. That was my first post in this thread. I was just pointing out you misunderstood that link and the comment you had quoted said "20-30 minutes" which is what it was. Its ok to be wrong. You don't have to be defensive.
