I chuckled when I saw people say that Jakob can't break 1:43 even if that's his focus. Jakob is 10 times an athlete than Nick Symmonds (no disrespect to Nick, as he's still a great athlete in his own right), yet even Symmonds could break 1:43 without supershoes. He didn't have a lot more speed than Jakob either with a mid-47 400m pb weeks before his 1:42 and he's miles behind Jakob in endurance.
What Jakob needs to train is just specific speed endurance that can carry him through low-51 400m for two laps. He was already able to close a 3:34 race in 51 while running in lane 2 most of the times plus waving to the crowd. He can get 1:42 if that's his main event. Though 1:41 is a completely different story, because it would take 46 400m speed to get there, not sure he could do that, but I can see him get into 47-48 if he trains like a 800/1500 guy v.s 1500/5k. He ran a 12 100m as a 12-year-old, and he already trained like a distance runner at the time. He has plenty of natural speed.

That is what Jakob himself told Aftenposten. But no matter. 49 low is too slow for him. He’s closed a 3:34 race in 51. Nobody has that much strength. Its impossible. Even if he lied to Aftenposten, I think 48 is even pushing it, 47 is more reasonable. 47 high isn’t that fast. It’s only two 23:xx together. Jacob closed his final 200 in one of the DL 1500s in 24.02 sec. So a 47 seems right him, but just to reiterate the man himself claimed he ran 46 to Aftenposten. He may have lied for all kinds of reasons, but he’s never struck me as being particularly dishonest. Maybe a little arrogant, but that’s different than making up PRs to the media for no reason, other than maybe wanting to get into rivals’ heads.

He’s a big sports journalist in Norway. He interviews the big Norwegian athletes.

47 is what an 800 runner would expect to do. He could run 1:42 for the 800 if he had that speed. Not a chance. He has never shown it. You'll be waiting some time before he beats 1:46.4.

wrong, he never got outkicked, he just gassed himself by front-running. In fact, he's never tried to (sit and) kick in a 1500m except Tokyo Olympic, where he won. His kick is underrated, even by himself.
El G in fact did run 1:42. He ran that time at a local race in Morocco in 1998 coming down from altitude camp spent in Ifrane. It was to prepare for the 1500m world record. The training leading up to the race and the race itself is featured in a Francophone documentary on El G that may still be on Youtube. It’s the current Moroccan national 800 record. This true PR was on El G’s wikepedia page for years before somebody removed it and replaced it with an older 1:47 PR from 1995. The 1:47 is wrong; El G ran 1:46 the last 800 in Athens. He could break 1:43 in his sleep.

He's obviously much faster now than in 2020; back then he was just barely starting to crack the 3:30 barrier in the 1500 and the 3:50 barrier in the mile; now he's run 3:26 and 3:43 (and 3:45 indoors).
My gut says 1:44 with the potential of cracking 1:44 in absolutely perfect conditions.
He's able to comfortably run a 52 second lap at the end of a mile and a 54 second lap at the end of a 3k. To think that all he'd be able to run a 52 second lap twice is not that far fetched IMO. Yes he's more of an endurance guy than a speed guy but he still has good enough speed to run 3:26 and close races extremely fast.

Hocker ran a 22 flat 200 as a HS sophomore and made it to his State meet semi finals. He could run 45 high and 1:41 if he trained as an 800 guy.

Jakob does not have Coe level speed, he hasn't done anything to indicate he can run a 46 from standing start off of 1500m 5k training, especially in 2022, his slowest season as a senior.
I don't think you're quite understanding what that level of speed and endurance entails, even after others have already pointed it out. He would have been able to run 53s straight for the 1500 and easily demolish the WR.

I’m waiting to hear back from the editor of Aftenposten to see if i can get that news article where he says he ran 46.
I’ve also sent Jakob’s profile on X a message asking if he remembers the interview and if he’ll confirm it. Obviously this reply if it comes at all would likely be from whoever manages his X page and not Jakob himself.
Out in 52.0, basically just running even splits the whole way. He could do it in training tomorrow with his brother pacing him on a bike. Zero doubts about that.
