They beat all the competition that was in the race. If your complaint on DEI is about wanting things to be decided objectively on current results, what else do you actually want?
Its very concerning. She blew up the last 100m, 17.9 seconds. In a slow race. Her coaching "teammate" Steelman came in last place... what is going on there?
I hope it is not something medical going on with Tuohy. She needs a new coaching and training environment.
She was right in the mix for 2800m. Why should she be able to close with our two fastest 1500/3k/5k runners at this point in her career?
Everyone on these boards is really sensitive about Tuohy so not trying to get anyone riled up, but it’s pretty obvious that she has not been herself for several years now. Obviously a string of injuries can be an explanation for that. I just find it interesting she would take so much time off of racing, only to come back when she seemingly isn’t ready. She isn’t super transparent about her training, injuries, etc. so I am curious how long she has been solidly training and how ready she felt she was for indoors. I think it’s maybe melodramatic to say she’s done, but I do think she should be considering changing things up soon whether that be coach, altitude, etc.

The top 4 girls were a stretch for her, but I don't think it's unfair to expect her to compete better with Donaghu, Hertenstein, and Markezich.
I'd love to see analysis of how many meters Tuohy ran vs the other girls. She was noticeably floating on the outside most of the race. But she was near the front, and I was watching her. Others in front of her could have been doing the same thing, and I wouldn't have noticed. Hiltz and Houlihan both stayed glued to the rail for the most part.
Time to worry about Tuohy seriously. The Top three finishers took a whole 5 seconds off her in the final 200m…in a slow race too. That’s terrible.
She needs a new coaching set up, and probably to live and train at altitude pronto. Absolutely everything needs to be re-done here.
She’s too young and talented to write off, but she’s just not really in the mix right now. Add Cranny, Schweitzer, ESP, Norris, Kelati, and Valby in to a race and she’s clearly not top 10 in women’s distance in the US. Not in the vicinity of making teams. That’s not where she was hoping to be at this stage of her career, I imagine.

She should absolutely not be falling apart and blowing up like that in a slow sit and kick....
She is not done! Touhy needs a lot more speedwork and needs to develop a kick. Rupp did not have a great kick at that age either but did develop one later.
Stick a fork in Tuohy. Her contemporaries including Morgan are far better than her.

She went to her limit and ran out of gas the last 200. That she can't finish an 8:50 race in 2:41 really isn't a big deal to me. Those splits indicate 15:00 5K shape, which isn't world-beating, obviously. But it's fine.
Not sure why people had any unrealistic expectations after the Millrose games. That showed her current fitness level. Time will tell. She is 22. My sense is that she has been dealing with physical issues.

Morgan is 5 years older than her.
And? Are they not both competing and entering the scene at around the same time? She’s not in the NCAA or HS anymore, this is the big leagues we don’t do age groups.

well obviously biology has something to say about it. unless you think they're going to develop, peak, and then retire together?

And I wouldn’t call someone who has competed as a pro for 7 months the “contemporary” to someone 5 years older.
Kaela Edwards is interesting. Her 800m PB is from 2018 (1:59.68) at age 24 and she has only ever broken 2:00 twice in her entire career (also ran 1:59.86 in 2021). She had the 41st fastest 800m time in the US last year. She is 31 now and just ran the fastest time in the prelims.
