I'm surprised Nico lost to Samuel, he looked a little rougher than last year at this point. Makes sense if Smith is holding him back until the spring, though.
Mike Smith with an elite stopwatch throw post-race. Has to be thinking his guys won’t make it in the 3K or something?
I saw that too. i don't think he was pleased with how his guys closed that final lap. Sahlman hung in there, but Malarkey and Bosley fell off the pace.

i started a thread on this but based on an initial look. Acer Iverson with his 7:41.02 is 16th on the ncaa list. So as of now, both Mularkey and Bosley are out
Solid 7:50 from Lex Young, first time he's run substantially better than in HS I believe. Very happy to see him improving again
The vast majority of decent runners are getting between 7:45 and 7:50 at this point. Lex Young's brother was consistently at the top of fields in the NCAA. I don't know how different their progression was in HS, but he's not performing amazingly.
I think Stanford is a step behind Washington, N Az, and even Oregon in terms of middle-distance and distance on the track in the post Ky Robinson/Charles Hicks era
1 Habtom Samuel New Mexico 7:39.39 2 Nico Young Adidas 7:39.53 3 Ishmael Kipkurui New Mexico 7:40.06 4 Matt Strangio Portland 7:40.09
5 Colin Sahlman Northern Arizona 7:40.41
6 Acer Iverson Washington 7:41.02 7 Casey Clinger BYU 7:41.05 8 David Mullarkey Northern Arizona 7:41.21 9 Drew Bosley Northern Arizona 7:41.47 10 Jack Rayner Melbourne Track Club 7:42.57
Fast as fck
Hard to say since basically nothing from this weekend is on tfrrs yet but it might take 7:40 flat to make the big dance this year
Def the first time that's ever happened
Ironically there was noone between 7:40 and 7:50 before this weekend except Thomas Boyden from Stanford at 7:41. You had Isiah Headen of Colorado, Cole Sprout of Stanford and someone else at 7:45 and nothing in between, so it would have been pretty realistic that we would have ended up with a 7:45-7:46 cutoff
Also, two guys that weren't that hot--someone I've never heard of from UNC named Colton Sands and Luke Tewalt (who most assumed had his best days earlier in his career) of Wake Forest-broke 7:40 back east
I'm assuming Nathan Green will not run the 3K. Knowing the power of Virginia, Arkansas, Northern Arizona and Villanova's anchor legs on the DMR, I think the difference between Nathan Green and anyone else could be massive in their finish there and they might want to double him up on both the mile and DMR. They might want to convert their new world record into a win at the DMR.
I also don't see anything to gain from Adam Spencer doing the 3K, so count those two times out

The dmr/3000 double actually quite popular as then fresh for both; no prelim heat.
Someone actually praising the Young brothers while not dunking on Santos.
Can I stand the strain🤣
My goodness.
Now Boyden runs a 13:21 for 2nd in the elite 5000 race for a lifetime best by 12 seconds.
Could it be that Santos actually does know how to coach🤔
Careful, you'll wake up the guy who was telling me a couple months ago that Santos doesn't get credit for Hicks or Robinson because he didn't recruit them.
