Haven’t seen the race yet, but Komen’s solo effort without Wavelight is, to me, more impressive.
The question is: where do things go from here? We had Bolt and then Blake was on track, but got derailed. To maintain drama, he needs some serious comp.
Who will it be? Will they be better than he is? Are they already on the track? Is this as 9.69 was to 9.58–i.e. will we see him go even faster, fairly soon? Will he totally put it away, for a looong time?
Yeah and what about the other records? Which is the biggest? 1500m?
Its official: Ingebrigsten is from another planet. 7:17.55. Absurdly fast. Incomprehensible.
And as I've said on this forum for years, Jakob was ALWAYS a 3000m runner. Never was a 1500 specialist. He's simply so good that 1500m thru 5000m he looks like a specialist in every event. 2000m, 3000m and 2mile......he is in his own category. Peerless. That simple.
The 5000m WR will be next. Assuming he stays healthy, he takes that under 12:35 next year.
I'm a bit worried about him waiting until next year to take it because you never know in this sport. Time is a real equalizer you feeling me sir????????????
If you can do it now then don't waste any more time you feeling me?????? I prefer Jakob wraps up the 5k WR in Brussels and skips the 1500m and 3000m really. He would be 25 next year and why wait till then when he can do it at 24????? Most track distance WRs are all set before the age of 24, mostly at 22 and 23 and 25 is a tad too late you feeling me?????
Jakob may no longer be at his peak by next year at 25, and many factors are at play like his mobile phone and WiFi radiation exposure etc.........
Feeling you??? Huh?
He's 23 and 11mos right now and should be just as good at 24+. Possibly even better at 2miles (as hard as that is to imagine) and 5000m. I'm convinced he will wait on the 5000 until next year. Better to take one shot at the Mile where he is only .6 off the WR.
Actually most of these 1500 to 5000 records are not set before 24. They are usually set 25-26 range.
WOW the most doped record in history is now taken down.
Jakob has the super sauce baby
The dude's drugged out of his mind on EPO,and whatever else he can get ,and he gets away with it,because he knows hes protected. Hes a full throttle doper, and people on here are too stupid to see it. I bet he can test positive and no one would ever know. Its not greatness we're seeing. Its chemicals.

I don't think so, do you research again, they are set from 800m through 10000m at 21-23 range. 24 is considered outlier already sir!!!

This.
I'm sure Komen was clean lol. Komen's 3000 WR might possibility be the most doped WR ever in distance.
and can run the 3k a couple of seconds faster than today.
we are talking about 1225.
which is a new level. occupied by one.
this would happen with very good, but not perfect cobditiobs.
I wonder if he has ever tried El Gerrouj's 16x400m in 52-4? off 45 sec rest. Not sure if I remember it correctly. I also wonder if a new person opens a thread on Let's run with Just ran a 7:17 for 3000m, what can I run in the 5k. I also do 12x400 at 55 with 60 rest. Can I break 3:26: in the 1500m. The gang jumps in with "The only way to know is to go and run the race". 1/10. Or "Get a coach and stop messing around" or "Here's my advice...."

I've researched it already. Peak for most 3000m types is around 26. Shorter events have an earlier peak. Ingebrigsten is entering his peak now.
He has no peer 1500-5000m throughout history. No one. He may well have 5 WRs, mile to 5000m, in the next 12 months.

Well yeah Komen's effort was the exemplar before Jakob's 7:17 today, no question about that and in slow shoes and more authentic track surfaces without quantum nanotechnology like today's ones. And that's why I was saying to everybody that 7:17 is nothing to be swooning over about. It was run of the mill and completely within reason as you say with wavelights, quantum track surfaces, supershoes, and a very good endurance athlete to pull it off.
So while 7:20 is more impressive, 7:17 is less impressive because it's run of the mill. Jakob had to be running 7:17 otherwise we would all be stoning him for being so wasteful and reckless. Seb Coe would also be quite embarrassed with all the technology available at Jakob's disposal but not breaking 7:20 from an ancient era.....
No, Jakob is unlikely to get the 1500m WR. The mile is possible, and the 5k is beyond possible. The 10k would then be possible once he gets the 5k one which he definitely gets. 10k in 25:30 at least!!!!! I said it here first!!!!

For 3000m only Morceli at 25 years of age broke the 3k WR in 1995, Komen was 20 in 1996, so even younger than 21-23 years age bracket.
For 800m 1500m 5000m 10000m, all the most recent WR holders at these respective events all made them before turning 24, which is Jakob's age dilemma right now!!!!!!!! I don't see any 24+ or 25 year old folks for these WR holders.
The younger the more likely the WR, that's the rule at the end of the day sir!!!! That's why Jakob is better poised to take the WR at 5000m in Brussels in September and not wait until next September to do so!!!
7:17 OMG that has to be the greatest distance world record of all time. I remember when Komen set that record and how amazed Ovett and Cram were () and Jakob finished so strong he could have taken a second off what he did. Just amazing!
It was Tim Hutchings, not Ovett on the call, along with Steve Cram. Hutchings called Jakob's world record today too. The pacing lights take some of the excitement out of it as we know if someone if going to break a world record now, but still awesome to see one of the all time great distance records go down. I wish NBC would upload the full race instead of 3 minutes of it. Kind of silly we can get a full race from the 90s but not today.

A runner who has never beaten 1:46 for the 800 puts two 1500's together at the pace of the great milers of the past, who trained just as hard - 100mpw - and were faster than him over 800. This sport is farcical.
Probably because he hasn't contested it since he was 19. While I agree with your sentiment your logic is horrible. There's no way you actually think he is currently in 1:46 shape
