Specifically in my field of engineering, theres a big push to hire women. theres a reason most engineers are men, and we don't need to give people jobs because they are more "marginalized"
What's the reason most engineers are men?
Women tend to be more interested in people/living things and men in inanimate things. So, women cluster in heathcare, biology, etc rather than physical sciences and related professions. In addition, women who are very good at science and math are far more likely than men to also be good at language; this means that women who excel at math and science tend to have more choices than men, whose talents are more likely to be clustered only in math and science.
I don't know anyone who thinks DEI is a good thing. I am in a hiring position and I always hire the best candidate with no consideration given to their race, religion, or gender. It's in my best interest to hire the best person so why the heck would I, or any other hiring manager for that matter, handicap ourselves by not hiring the best candidate?
The only DEI initiative we really need is to hire the best. Not hire to fill a quota or even take it into the equation
can someone explain to me how "DEI hire" fits when (a) you ran for the president job on your own (b) you are vice president of the whole country (c) you were a city DA and a state AG and (d) importantly, you are getting the gig because the default white dude is senile.
also, being a howard graduate is the opposite of DEI. a black person is not getting into howard on affirmative action. people are stupid.
Isn’t Howard already kind of an affirmative action university ? The SAT score standards are quite average yet it’s a “prestigious” university . It’s only famous because it’s 100 years old and built for black people. It’s not special like MIT

DEI is giving white sprinters scholarships instead of blacks proportionally to account for racial inequities in sprinting ability. It is the exact same logic. White people aren't as good at sprinting, so we need to favor them when selecting team USA. We should ban Kenyans from marathons and put in 5 year olds instead.
