This thread is hilarious to read through after Wes got 6th in 1500m, Nate and Yasin went 2 & 7 in the steeple, and Shane literally won the 800m. It’s perfectly fair to criticize Vin’s character (and honestly you should) but the people coming on here saying he doesn’t get results or that Gary should transfer are completely delusional. Vin can definitely be a bit of a jerk sometimes but yall need to get a grip

I think that’s the point. Vin is a as$hole and Gary is not running well under Vin. That’s why someone was saying transfer.
It’s a colossally stupid point given the performance of the UVA crew at NCAAs. It was a lousy race for Martin. Who knows why. Should Nico transfer because he blew a race the world thought was his? should all the guys who cohen upset transfer? just grasp that a crew of guys coached by vin Lananna achieved - the race results are all that matter. There is no wind gauge measuring your animosity towards vin and alter the results. The athletes did it. They showed up at Lannigan every day, and yea, Vin was there with Trevor, whom the bitter failures on this thread love to hate. And that team achieved. grasp that.

Vin Lananna isn’t a coach anymore. He’s a Track & Field political nightmare. Gary is a huge talent and should have been in that 1500m final. He has two years of the NCAA left and transferring could be a good idea.
UVA men at NCAA's: 5 first team All Americans, 3 honorable mentions, 1 national champion, and 1 runner up. And throw in an ACC championship.
Coaching is definitely not a problem at UVA. Gary is in a great place for his talent at a school with fantastic academics and reputation. He didn't have his best day in the prelims and that's just D1 running. You obviously never ran D1 at a high level. Some days you're on and others slightly off and at NCAA's that's all it takes. Doesn't mean bad coaching. Gary has gained some great experience and I'm sure if he stays healthy we'll see him in contention for the podium next year. Leaving a program as solid at UVA at this point would be a terrible move.
Right? One guy doesn’t have his best day, yet he’s in the finals at the championship meet as just a true sophomore, and Vin is to blame? The original poster’s agenda is clear. No one is here criticizing the Marcus and Nova men, who way underperformed. Marcus is still a great coach and they didn’t have their day. That’s just the way it goes. That’s track. Any kid who is there has worked their a$$ off to get there and has outperformed thousands of others thanks to their coaches and the people around them.
We get it. The OP has a vendetta with vin. The UVA men showed up and showed out. Congrats to them.
Or is it time for Connor Burns, Simeon Birnbaum, and the Young twins to consider transferring to UVA, where athletes aren't injured, see improvements, qualify for the Trials, and are part of a championship team? Something to think about...
