Jserra moved up to 3rd place! Impressive! I am rooting for Lone Peak to get a podium spot. How is Santiago ranked below Buchanan? They beat them at State. The battle of the Colorado teams will be fun to watch-I think either could win it all!
Would love to see individual rankings before Saturday.
Buchanan did have one of their top 5 drop out; they seem to have issues at the Clovis/State Meet since 1 runner seems to drop out the last few races there.
At full strength I'd put them over Santiago, but no way by 78 points like that post.
The runner you’re taking about at the 2022 California State meet finished 158 in 21:42. She then finished 44 at NXN in 18:06 and was Buchanan’s #2.
I’m not sure what caused her to DNF at the California state meet, but hopefully she rebounds like she did last year.
My only worry is that a guy like Daniel Simmons can put a much larger gap on Noonan.
Running on grass is key. If you have a top 10 guy and runs well on grass he will win. Running on grass over other terrains are completely different.
I agree. Newbury Park ran well at NXN partly because they found a park near the school that was over watered and flooded and they trained on that to simulate NXN’s terrain.
Agree. I know everyone has their local favorite they swear will win because of such and such a race, but Daniel is the clear favorite. 1:57 800 guy does not mean he can't kick, every local runner has the best kick you've ever seen because they don't get mixed up until NXN. Of course anything can happen at NXN, but some of these predictions are wild. It's like NCAAs, where every one of 250~ people thinks they will be all American. A good local race or two does not guarantee national success.
To help illustrate this, last year Mountain View (southwest) went crazy at Utah's state meet (5A). Slowest scoring guy 15:48 with Liam Heninger as a projected top 10-30 NXN guy. People were comparing them to American Fork, and of course said they would destroy Herriman, who took 4th in the 6A race with unimpressive times. At nationals they struggled and were 22, herriman 3, and af 5.
But, if you made a chart of their times at a certain meet compared to other teams, as many on this website have done, that means herriman shouldn't have made nationals and mountain view should have gone wild. Based off of that singular race, using this popular method.
Again, anything can happen at nationals but your favorite team or runners strong showing at a local race doesn't necessarily mean jack.
Rachel Forsyth just ran her tenth consecutive performance faster than 17 minutes for 5K.
Everyone else is running for second....
Actually Rachel Forsyth has run 11 straight 5k's in sub 17.
Elizabeth Leachman is as good as Rachel Forsyth, but Forsyth is used to running in cold weather and Leachman prefers hot weather, so advantage to Forsyth at NXN. Might be the other way around at Foot Locker.
Why don't Successful High School Teams just use their HS Name when competing at NXN?
Some do - Newbury Park - American Fork.
Others it seems change their name to CLUB or AREA when competing at Nike XC.
Southern Oregon = Crater
Why not represent your High School at NXN? Is it because they pick up other runners from other high schools?
Curious.
Nike does not have a great relationship with the high school associations, and so NXN is a "club" event. All the athlete's on a team have to go to the same school so in reality it is a school event, but because it's technically not, you can't use your school's name.
Newbury park and American Fork are both the name of the town, that just so happens to be the name of the high school. There isn't a town named Crater in Oregon, so they are "southern Oregon"
