Official Idaho 2024 Track Thread

I would have serious concerns if it was my coach saying ^^^THIS^^^ in a public forum or on his Strava, and how it relates to what I believe.

Never mind that you put a ladder of "rules" in front of people everyday that don't believe what you believe or at all. It's really sad that this is getting brought into high school sports by someone that kids should be able to trust. Imagine developing a pretty good reputation as a young, talented coach and then not being able to resist posting your beliefs online, stopping just short of calling out the largest demographic of your team by name, while criticizing everything that you disagree with about their beliefs. I hope this blows up in your face.

SE Idaho track weather arrived right on time. After an unusually warm and dry February, SE Idaho got almost a foot of snow over the weekend with up to 6 more inches forecast over the next few days. High of 32 forecast for the opening meets Friday in Pocatello. Looks like more running back and forth in the halls for track practice this week. Sweet.

Boise wasn't terrible on weather. The forecast looks okay for the Friday meets. The most interesting meets are Centennial and Rocky and then Boise hosting Capital and Canyon Ridge. On the girls side, Owyhee hosting Meridian and Nampa is okay with Paisley Taylor and Faith Johnson hopefully squaring off.

There aren't too many good matchups this week for distance races this week. Mountain View hosts Kuna, Eagle hosts Middleton, Borah hosts Timberline.

Next week has Boise at Mountain View, Eagle at Meridian, Timberline at Centennial, and Owyhee at Capital. Those at least have better matchups, provided that you get stuff like Ringert v Statdlander, Ihmels v Blaser/Jensen, Burdick v Antonnen, Johnson v. Sullivan at the meets that have less depth.

Looks like all the varsity guys in both the 1600m and 3200m. No Vickhammer from Middleton.

Ruby Ihmels goes 2:21, 5:07. 4 Timberline girls not named Ruby get the 3200m district standard. Wil Ihmels gets the district 1600m mark.

For the meets that now have more info:

Boise Quad:

Orme, Bruce, Nelah Roberts, Sullivan and the Highland girls in the 1600.

Kemper, Sheesley, Helder in the 1600 and 800.

Nelah Roberts is also running the 3200, but only 3 girls, so they may combine it with the boys.

No Isaac Antonnen.

Very good matchup of Sophia Clark and Tambree Bell at 400m.

I expect that we'll see ~8 boys with the District III mark in the 1600m after today and 5-7 in the 3200m. I'm guessing we'll have ~10 girls with the 1600m mark and about the same for the 3200m.

That is without Bruce, Orme, Ihmels, Pollock, Taylor, Johnson, Sullivan, etc. running the 3200m this weekend and with Mountain View having their meet cancelled. 27 got the mark last year. Owyhee and Meridian are running girls and guys combined in the 3200m so if they both race Taylor, Johnson, Dawe, and Berdan, all 4 could conceivably get the mark tomorrow.

When do we hit 27 girls with the mark- the week after spring break?

Looks like just Mountain View/Kuna at this point? Am I missing more?

Vallivue and Ridgevue say limited events and cancelled so not sure what is going on there.

Zach CS- 9:21.75 for 2 miles (9:19.19 for 3200m)
Jacob King- 9:23.90- 3200m mark didn't record.
Wyatt Carr- 9:34.79 (9:31.85 for 3200m)

Max CS- 9:05.45 (9:02.63 for 3200m)

Does CDA average faster than Rocky’s 9:17.60 top 5 last year?

Their average without Lachlan May is currently about 9:18.50.

Yes CDA will absolutely average faster than Rocky from last year. CDA was an NXN team, Rocky was not.

I think it's pretty clear that CDA will score under 20 points at state in 2024 for XC.

CDA is an NXN team that returns lots of guys who are running insane times during indoor, while Boise is going to disappear and it's clear from the results yesterday that Rocky is washed up and won't be in the conversation.

Washed up? Not quite yet. They return 4 guys from the NXR championship squad. And also Goggins (10:01 in the 3200 at Simplot), Beeler (16:58 on the NXR course), and Clark (4:36 yesterday / 16:54 at districts). That’s a solid top 7.

They might not be able to beat CDA, but this won’t completely eliminate their chances of going to NXN.

0% chance that CDA scores under 20. The existence of Jack Sheesley alone makes it where it’s unlikely. If Sheesley finishes 2nd to Stadtlander and Meridian doesn’t qualify, then CDA scores 20 if they go 3-7.

I do think it’s possible CDA would beat a team of all stars from teams that qualified. So Sheesley, Lucas, Tuft, etc.

I think Boise will beat Rocky.

People said the same thing prior to the last 2 season, and then it ended up being the other way around at state & NXR.

What’s the 5A low score record, at least in relatively recent years?
