This same thing happened last year. I mean the runner from Miami ran 18:30s. And there simply isn't enough data in college running to trust algorithms.
People will believe anything. No offense to her but come on.
If, IF, she could have held her 4k split pace (3:07/km) over a full 6km, that would be 18:42. The 5k equivalent, per the JD Calculator, is 15:24 (instead of 15:35), and that’s without any temperature adjustment.
Similarly, if, IF, Churchill could have held her 4k split pace (3:13/km) over a full 6km, that would be 19:18. The 5k equivalent, per the JD Calculator, is 15:54 (without temperature adjustment.)
I appreciate the analysis. There was an odd slowing by the runners between 3020 and 4000 - not sure if that was difficulat portion or was "4000" actually more like 4050? So possibly a touch faster on the 5000 equivilent. Bottom line, fast, but not crazy fast.
83 women ran sub 20 min at 8 Regional sites. 43 from 7 Regionals and 40 from the single Regional in Florida. Either that’s the fastest course in America, or it is a fast-short course. Regardless, who cares, they will all be racing the same course in a week.
Just a local and not an expert so this could be wrong but I can give you some insight in that the Mark Bostick Golf Course is run annually for the University of Florida Mountain Dew Invitational XC meet
It is very fast but you should also know the men's course is known short and listed as 7800 meters, not a full 8km
So it can be assumed the women's course is at least 200 meters short?
What's with all the valby hype? I mean I guess there's the obvious answer but...
Let's look at it this way, so far she has shown no speed... I think her fastest mile is like a 437...
So my question is does she really have any chance to be a legitimate top American 5K 10K runner, never mind a world elite, if you don't have any mile speed to speak of...
Nothing against her she seems like a fun person and a great college athlete but it just seems

Where did you find her pb listed as 4:37?
Parker Valby may not be a speed demon as her pb listed by Mile spilt, IAAF, and Wiki is 4:50 from her high school career. Her personal best in the 5000m is 15:20 in which she averaged 4:55 mile pace for 3.1 miles.
How fast can Parker run a mile as a collegian, we won't know until she does run one. Everyone said Athing Mu 4:55 pb from high school and she could never run a fast mile, in college she dropped it to 4:37 and as pro focused on the 1500m ok be year and popped a 4:03 1500m.
You cannot go by a young athlete pb when it's from high school and they obviously evolved to a whole new level. VALBY may never be a miler but she has great potential in the 5000 and 10000m. Ultimately she will be a marathoner anyway. So stop your Parker VALBY hating...

She ran 4:35 or 4:36 anchoring a DMR in January (and losing) - I think that is it.
In the last 25 years (Modern Era) there has only been a VERY SELECT FEW women who have run 6km on ANY legitimate 6km cross country in under 18 minutes. The last one I can recall was Faith Kipyegon
Sub 18 minutes 6km is traversing 5km in 15 minutes flat and slightly picking it up in the last kilometer. That basically what Parker did today at Regionals but the BAD NEWS is at 5km she had a 50 meter lead and in the last kilometer the Alabama DUO ate up most of her lead and almost caught Parker VALBY . Making it the first time I have seen 3 women in one 6km cross country race run sub 18:05. Parker VALBY and Katelyn you have competition for Individual Women Champion now. WOW
LOL. Who gives a fk. Will she ever beat gidey, hassan etc in world championships or Olympics? No and no American woman ever will because they're not good enough. So STFU with these endless threads on these girls you creep.

Knowing a lot of the women’s performers from the year that raced here today. They all ran a good 45-60 seconds faster than they’ve raced all season. Definitely a short course as well as a fast course.
“course had to be short”
”she has to be doping”
”she has some crazy shoe tech”
”her tangents are unfair”
”her opponents were sandbagging”
COMMON POSTRACE EXCUSES MADE BY HATERS OF VALBY
My comment in no way was intended to single out valby. I’m talking about 25 other women I’ve seen results from various other meets this fall. It’s short and fast so if it wasn’t short the times would still be slightly quicker anyway.
I don't care what Parker Valby mike pv is if it's under 4:40, she has a chance to be world class at 10000m and marathon. I had a friend name Chris Groves from Arkansas whose pb in the 200m was 30.0, 400m 62.1 but he could run a 4:12.1 1600m. He was endurance on top of endurance, a freak of nature hindered by his lack of speed.
If Parker VALBY is even close to this type of runner she can be just like Chris Groves or HEY better yet Almaz Ayana. Very little foot speed but the ability to churn out miles closer to their top speed better than those they compete against, thus giving them some chance of success.

I like the Ayana comparison, but something along the lines of AA's London 2017 romp from Valby on Nov 11? Crikey.

sad to say there is very little chance she will ever the durability to be a marathoner.

I both agree and disagree with you.
-I don’t think Valby has ‘very little footspeed’; we’ve seen her be able to really ramp up the pace hard and drop competitors. While this may not translate to a fast 400 pace, she has shown that she now has a solid kick added to her repertoire.
-I think her endurance is excellent for the marathon, but an injury-prone runner like her may find it difficult to race that distance frequently. I do agree with you on the 10,000; absolutely would not be surprised to see her become a sub-30 min athlete.
Alabama got into NCAA as a team, how much will this force Doris to stay back and drag Heidi like she did at South Regionals? If Doris have ANY chance to win she must be free to make moves without pacing her teammate.

It won't hold them back, they never run with the rest of the Alabama pack. Doris will follow her instinct... She amd Tuohy will pack up and chase Valby, Hilda will stay as long as possible
