That’s right. The problem is when Hassan fans prioritize range over everything else. If we go by the 4 factors we named, Dibaba comes out on top overall.
Championships: Dibaba
World record keeper in her prime: Dibaba
Longevity: Dibaba
Range: Hassan
Such BS. If you are evaluating best “distance runner” of all time, then range is paramount. Hassan’s 1500 in Doha, her 10000 in Tokyo and her win today are all you need to judge her to be the Goat. Simply counting medals and records and wins and losses is for the simple minded.
Lol! You accuse someone of being simple minded while you use the simplest criteria to make your judgement. Hilarious!
Jackson might be #2, but FloJo is unquestionably the #1. Not to mention the drop in times that FloJo would have on a new trampoline track surface.
Her times were run in 1988–that’s now 35 years ago!!!
Even if someone betters her times, she could still be the GOAT.
What I like about Hassan is the balls she shows: road AND track, tripling, whatever distance, historic performances at disparate distances within a single season, etc.
I love heart, and she has it—just like the Citizen Runner. The best!
However, if Assefa destroys a bunch of other records, I will have to reconsider. Never liked Dibaba too much.
Why the name of Flo-Jo don't appear in this list?
Don't tell me the people that elect this list are newbies.

So you are judging on the basis of 3 races while claiming those that judge her based on her entire career are "simple minded". Got it.
While Faith Kipyegon will surpass her achievements while Gudaf Tsegay is the runner who races by far most beautifully of all women!
The bigger question is, why never an American? Yes, we all know about the different ways of living, but come on! Can't we gain some ground? It sure doesn't look it.
Lol! You accuse someone of being simple minded while you use the simplest criteria to make your judgement. Hilarious!
Yet you rank Dibaba as better than Hassan though she’s 35 seconds slower in the 10 and 4 minutes slower in the marathon. That’s hilarious. What’s Dibaba’s pr in the 1500?

The US has not bad space technology, not so bad planes, access to two oceans, a lot of beautiful landscapes, too many IT / social media assets, bad cars & architecture, fast male sprinters & hurdlers, some fast female sprinters & hurdlers, and consistently tops the champs' medal tables - so the country does not necessarily have to have the fastest female (and male) distance runners right away.
With that being said, I do think Hassan needs a few more championship golds to cement status as distance GOAT.
That is the thing that was clearly on display this year if we didn't get it at the olympics. Hassan doesn't care to just win another gold been there done that.. She would rather win all of them. That attitude alone makes her the goat.
She has superior range to Faith so this debate is medal count vs ability. Hassan has medals and has shown her range. If you still want to include Dibaba in this debate then it isn't so clear honestly. I still would pick Hassan over faith though. That just isn't close to me.

How overly simplistic of you to just look at a few PRs - while conveniently ignoring that Dibaba is faster at 5,000 - and not take into account the vastly different contexts in which those PRs took place. Not very wise of you.
It’s not unreasonable to factor in longevity and range in a GOAT status application, either.

What has Hassan not accomplished that the others have? Remember shes competed through the Genzebe Dibaba Era, Faith Kipyegon era, against the really tough Ethiopian 5k runners. If you guys want to compare competition Sifan looks very good in this debate. Dibaba has more golds then Sifan has medals so there is that for the counting stats folks.
Dibaba:
12 golds for Dibaba
4 XC golds
2 XC silver
5 10k golds
1 10k silver
1 10k bronze
3 5k Golds
2 5k Silver
7 diamond league wins
9 golden league wins
1 major marathon win
Faith K:
1 5k Gold
5 1500m Gold
2 1500m silver
23 diamond league wins
Total Medal count 19. Not including xc/marathon lol that would be another 10 medals including her 1-3 placements in xc and the marathon.
Don't compare medals lol. Dibaba will win everytime it isn't remotely close.
Total Medal count 8
Sifan Hassan:
5 Gold
2 10k Gold
1 5k Gold
1 1500 Gold
1 5k silver
1 3k silver
4 1500m bronze
2 Major Marathon victories
18 Diamond League wins
1:56 800
3:51 1500(world championship record no wavelights or superspikes either)

And still has more Golds across all formats and longevity (2003 5K WC gold-2017 WC 10K silver)
Hassan is still slower than Dibaba over the 5k
A pre-wavelight 29.42 woman who PRd at 31 in her last 10k Olympics after 2 straight golds?
What do you think Dibaba would have run with super spikes and Wavelight in 2008?
So yes, we rank Tirunesh Dibaba first because of her extraordinary abilities notwithsanding a 2.17. pre super-shoes chicago marathon win

You mean the weak era in which Dibaba competed versus the all time great current era? Medals were a lot easier to come by 10-15 years ago.
You never did tell me Dibaba’s 1500 pr? Does she have one? How about prs in the 3000?

Work on your reading comprehension. I already stated that Hassan has the better range. That doesn’t make her the better runner when Dibaba has the advantages in gold medals, keeping a world record in a championship event during her prime, and longevity.
Since you like to ask questions, here’s one for you: what has Hassan accomplished in cross country, and how does that compare to Dibaba?

She's certainly in the debate for most suspicious in history. Bronze 1500 then 2nd fastest marathon ever within a couple months. Oh yeah she's been sauced up big time for a while.
So what? Determining the best distance runner is not a damn popularity contest. Point is it’s still a championship that notable runners compete in. Try telling Joshua Cheptegei and Jacob Kiplimo that . I’m sure these well established distance runners will do disagree with you….no?
Hassan is often photographed with both feet off the ground when sprinting on the bell lap. She widens her shoulders and runs with a long, open stride, which seems to allow her to generate more power, maintain a higher level of speed, and glide off the ground for longer periods of time.
I don't recall her having this exaggerated form pre-2019. If anything, she's learned how to generate power and apply force to the ground; this 'weird' style allows her to propel herself forward with more momentum, which means she doesn't have to be in contact with the ground as often.
