Some people will probably say it was all just a joke but when it’s incessant, unprompted, not reciprocated, and likely is meant to and does get under the skin, is it really?
Im mainly talking about connor “won’t be any competition” burns who despite the lack of competition finished 4th. When he comes 112th in cross and oregon comes in 14th, will he still be talking?

Some trash talking is fun and healthy. It makes for great rivalries. Nearly all sports have trash talk on some level.

you americans are weirdly obsessed with the 4 min mile. you do realize 3.39 1500 or 13.34 5000 are way better performances right?
It’s a magical number for us man. You weren’t there when sub 4 meant you were one of the best guys in the nation pro or college.
Yes, in days past. I was a big 4 minute mile guy, but it looks like going forward there will be about 4 HIGH SCHOOLERS breaking 4 every year, many of whom will not amount to anything on the national circuit, so it is going to lose a lot of its luster. When the list was short enough that many people could recite it off the top of their head it really meant something, but we will soon be past that point. Too bad, because having a nice, easy to understand, yet incredible achievement is a good thing for the sport. It is a bad side effect of the super shoes (not the only factor, but you gotta open your eyes and see the truth). For me, I pretty much ignore times now and pay attention to placing, and that aspect of Birnbaum's season was truly remarkable, in any year, with any shoes.
