"Congratulations to Jakob Ingebrigtsen on shattering Daniel Komen's 2-mile world record! Your incredible feat is a testament to your talent, dedication, and relentless pursuit of excellence. You have proven once again that you are a force to be reckoned with in the world of athletics. Keep up the fantastic work, Jakob! The world is watching and cheering you on. #IngebrigtsenOnTop"
Part way through the race I really wasn't sure that he would do it. That was immense. damn I really struggled to understand lol. I thought my Danish MIGHT help and it did not, so fast...
Reasons he might get it: shoes, lights, pacers, going for a relatively weak record in a rarely attempted event.
Reasons he might not get it: he is currently 8th fastest all time in 1500m (outdoors) and 13th fastest all time in 3000m. My calculator (Purdy) equates a new record to 7:23.33 for 3000m -- Jakob's best is 7:27.05.
Beating Mottram (8:03.50) would make him #3, and beating Geb (8:01.08) would make him #2.
Wow -- impressive run.
Purdy equates 7:54.10 for 2 miles to 7:19.17 for 3000m.
And just like that, my point still remains. Jakob just performed one of the greatest world records, running close to 7:20 3k pace overall, and people here still doubt him. Guys he has not only been training since he was 10 years old, but he has trained scientifically with a lactate meter since then as well. He's not doping and he is genuinely going to go down as an all-time great. Why can't we all just support this amazing athlete who is on his way to greatness?

Even I didn't believe it was possible to dope so transparently and get away with it. But that's the era we are in now.
There is only one poster on this board who just can challenge you for the title letsrun WOAT, that's Bad Wiggins. But, when being objective, it's not really close, you are number one.
He ran 3:28.32 in an olympic final after 2 hard rounds, he ran 3:46.46, can run low 12:40s, and is olympic champion and world champion. Why does everyone doubt him he is pushing the sport continuously and we should all support him.
Because the guy who ran 7:58 ran 3:29 and 12:39 and was better at 3k/2 miles than any other event. And because many other greats have given it a shot and run 8:01+
I will admit, I was wrong. Fair play to Jakob, that was an incredible performance. I think it’s safe to say he has finally cemented himself as an all-time great with his first outdoor world record.
The only thing these performances have changed for me is the realization that the biopassport and testing are absolutely futile at preventing doping conducted professionally. This isn't microdosing; it is doping without fear of being caught.

I don't want to downplay his achievement, because many thought he could not do it, and he proved them all wrong by a big margin. I thought the 2 mile record would be easier than the 3000, but he ran an equivalent better than both.
For me there are three factors that helped him achieve something that was not done for decades before:
1) The 2 miles and 3000m are contested infrequently, and world record attempts even less so, and for this reason they were comparatively weak compared to the more frequently attempted 1500m/5000m/10000m/etc.

2) Wave lights
3) New shoes
You left out the essential factor: doping. The others are minor.

Oh right -- I forgot another important factor: he just came down from 4 weeks of altitude training, stimulating EPO and RBC production naturally and WADA legally.
