I believe strongly that this race shows how important it is for Tuohy to turn the page on her college experience. Ritz did this albeit after he went to the Olympics. She has some potential, but she should be in a pro group as soon as possible and preferably at altitude like with Smith or Ritz. She is forfeiting a good a chance to make the next team if she stays in Raleigh.
you want her to go pro so that valby has at least a chance of winning a title
Simpson has the fastest overall time, all condition (including oversized tracks) etc in 15:01. But Emily Sisson (for example) still holds the official indoor record today in 15:12 despite running a slower time because she ran it on a record legal track during the season. Simpsons 15:01 was never the official indoor record despite being faster.
The Providence grad student smashed the collegiate indoor 5000 meters record by two seconds with her 15:12.22 win at the BIG EAST Championships late Saturday night at the NYC Armory.
'Absolute in season' or 'absolute all condition all season' is not the same as holding the official collegiate record for in season indoor or outdoor. It has to be on a record legal track size and during regular season to count. Any other time would count towards a different all - time list.
I am sure the NCAA will probably note Tuohy's record in an update soon, as will Bowerman watchlist.

Honest question: Are you semi? (I’ve been wondering where semihaze went off to).

BOWERMAN! (I’ve been tootin’ that horn for awhile). She’s GOT to be a lock now.

Obviously!
If that’s the case, we need a thread explaining why and discussing why semihaze has been through so many accounts. (I thought they created a registered semihaze name?)
They medaled at her age bc they were DOPING. You think Gidey or Hassan (lolll), etc, are clean, or that the stream of doping busts among major marathon winners is not indicative of a systematic problem? As long as you are running against people that will poison themselves for peanuts with zero dignity while the few sport followers make up comically dumb excuses, that is the reality. Chemistry, not talent, is what controls the outcome. Forget Ma's Army or the Jama scandal. There is an unnamed runner from Europe who never ran faster that 15:40. Then suddenly she ran low 15s, then 14:40s, all in a matter of weeks, just in time for the Olympics. By I am sure a pure coincidence, she was coached by her father, who himself was busted for doping after winning a European championship. You would have blind not to see it. But no one on here ever does. Duh.
Some months back I did a projection of what I think KT could run if she does what other top runners do. Maybe she decides to play the game like Sydney or maybe she does not. My measure of a successful career for her is finish college as the goat, join a top pro team that can look after her, a make a few world teams. Whatever else is superfluous.
No, not amazing. Can we be honest? Most people would say that a failure to break 15 is a failure tonight. Touhy is held to a higher standard.
Not sure I understand why she is singled out and held to a higher standard? She isn’t even finished with her Junior year of eligibility outdoor but is already well ahead of where many current pros were at that time in their college careers. This was her 3rd NCAA record. It’s not a failure ffs! Also her last name is spelled T-U-O-H-Y. Thank you.
Despite all of the down votes, I’m sticking with my initial impression. Tuohy is a BIG talent for the USA, and yes, she’s ahead of many/most of the top US pros at the same age, and yes, she’s still in school and not training like a pro or training at altitude. That’s all true. BUT there’s talk of Tuohy possibly making the team this year, and in that context, 15:03, if not a failure, is not moving the needle. I didn’t think she would beat Andrews, but I certainly thought she could finish 2nd and run in the low 14:50s last night. Are you all going to tell me with a straight face you didn’t expect the same? Failing to do so doesn’t mean she’s washed or that the future is not bright for her, but last night was a disappointment despite the collegiate record. Yes, she’s on another plane and held to a different standard than other college runners, and that’s a good thing.
Well lets see what happens when she joins a team like OAC, does not have to worry about college finals and being an academic all-American, trains at altitude, etc. People just seem to forget she is regular college student.

Is she not more likely to remain an Adidas athlete? Anyway, yes I expect she’ll level up again when she turns pro and maybe she’ll be ready to compete for a spot on the team to Paris, but this summer, no, she’s not going to be ready. That’s ok. I guess it was not sensible to think she would be so precocious, but after indoors and races like at Millrose I think plenty of people had her running 14:40 and possibly medaling at nationals.

Yes, the overall record was set on an indoor track which is more difficult than an outdoor track.
Was that your point?
No, my point was that you stated that Track & Field News has the record listed as 15:01.70. I thought that was odd for someone that touts themselves as “factcheck,” you know, because you left off the “i” in which T&FN uses to denote the time.
She said in an interview that she has been a little overwhelmed lately with finals and finishing school. I think she might be graduating. So you factor that in. Maintaining the type of peak she had for the Dr. Sanders and Millrose is not automatic.
But I thought she ran this race solo?! I’m so confused 😂
really only kidding - just funny to read all the different twists people are getting themselves into on here.
Late race, across the country, hard week of school, solo, in a crowded race.
The girl ran amazing- let her time speak for itself without all the other noise everyone is bringing. I like KT because she lets her performance speak for itself without a bunch of other talk. Since she was in HS- I want to run fast is a common answer. Great, we like watching people run fast.
It sounds like she is going to focus on the 1500m for ACCs / NCAAs because she wants that closing speed. I wish Merber had asked her about what happened in the last two laps here because it wasn't there. She says she felt pretty good until about 10:30? and then it caught up with her. Focusing on the 1500m would be cool - but she will have some stiff competition from Thornton Bott, Appleton, Schein Becker and others
I don't want to start an NCst bash or anything so I hesitate to post this, but Bush, Chmiel, Tyynismaa have all had issues hitting a wall in the final stages of a race during outdoors this season too.

I believe they said that because after mile 2 she was in no-man’s-land, no one to key off or work with, not with any group, therefore, solo.
