We changed the title of this thread. It initially was entirled, "Jonathan J. Marcus, What is your LetsRun Username? J. Marcus accuses Yared Nuguse of Doping Based on....." We removed the first half as we didn't think it was really relevent to the discussion at hand.
But before I do. Full disclaimer. I don't know who is clean or who isn't clean and it does bother me intellectually that everyone who was in the NOP was clean as snow and totally innocent except of course for that evil man Salazar even though almost all of these innocent as snow people have greatly benefitted from their assocation with Salazar, whether it was Rupp, Farah, Goucher, Ritz, Yoder-Begley etc.
Yeah, his Ethiopian background is almost a guarantee that he doesn't even take supplements.
Or maybe the fact that’s he is super smart and wants to be a dentist would factor into it.
seems pretty silly to throw away your reputation before you apply to graduate school
I love this theory letsrunners have that the real world cares whatsoever about athletic credibility. There would be no need to mention his pro athletic career on a grad school app, and no one he would work with would have any idea he holds American Records. We are the few, the proud, the running fans.
If you're running a 3:47 mile and 7:28 3000m when your previous PB's were 3:34 (1500m) and 7:38, you're in the spotlight for doping.
if you're running those times in January / February, you're in the spotlight for doping. It's how the sport works.
Jonathan Marcus might be an idiot, but the times Nuguse has run put him on a watch list. If he's clean, it's awesome and the future is bright. If not, no one should be surprised.
A bunch of pseudo-science mumbo jumbo. He doesn't have force sensors on Nuguse's spikes, so he has no idea how much force is being put into the ground at that point in the stride. It's almost certainly very little. The force is greatest when the foot passes directly under the body. Nuguse is getting a bit more than other people at that point in the stride just by the fact his foot is on the ground, but that's fractionally more of a small amount of force. I see no reason to make multiple very questionable leaps in logic that it is a high energetic cost form and therefore must be doping. Nuguse has pretty flexible hip flexors, and his legs go back that far just to get the elastic forward return of the leg at that speed. That's what a lot of us are trying to achieve when we do drills/stretches that stretch the hip flexors.
Wait until this dude analyzes Seb Coe's form, with an even greater "late propulsive thrust" form:
Yeah these form fanatics are something else. He says that Rudisha's's form "makes sense" but Yared's does not. Someone explain to me the huge difference in their trailing legs.
I think what Jmar is trying to say is that Nuguse leg is extended during toe off, while Rudisha's leg is extended after toe off while he's in the air. I think this form discrepancy is mostly due to the rocker of the super-spikes, the fact that Nuguse is speeding up while Rudisha is trying to maintain speed and of course individual differences in form.
The Magness' are the T&F equivalent of Alex Jones- here's why
They conduct shotgun-method "journalism", "Research". Make a million claims and stories and a few are bound to hit...this isn't one of them. I'll call myself the biggest doping accuser on this site and I am confident that was a clean result.
Alex Jones brings the receipts and is right about more times than not.
If you're applying to grad school/dentistry school at 30, they're going to know what you spent the last 10 years doing. Completely omitting your entire life in that period would be a surefire way to not get in, and if you do mention it, a quick cursory glance would uncover any doping violations, which would DEFINITELY be taken seriously for anything medicine related.
Not that this is a concern to me as I'm not suspicious of Nuguse!

That is all fine and dandy but I promise you if that photo was taken milliseconds before when Rudisha's foot was still on the ground his trailing leg was in the exact same position to what Yared's leg extension looks like. Identical.

You’re assuming he will run for 10yrs. You’re assuming they would look up his athletic career. You’re assuming he would put pro athlete instead of something like marketing for On. You’re assuming him taking PED’s would be a red flag. Pretty sure they’d be more concerned with addicts and thieves in the medical industry.
I’d be curious to see an example of a confirmed doper having a hard time getting into another profession, outside the industry, due to a doping reputation.
You guys use the same reasoning for Fisher and an engineering career. It’s a lot of assuming the rest of the world cares about professional running and/or doping.

Getting a biomedical sciences degree or whatever he has to take a “marketing job” and then come back to dental school at 30 would probably raise some questions.
Also seems pretty unethical to take PEDs and then misrepresent a huge chunk of your life on an application to medical school.
- He said he'd retire at 30, so I'm just going off what he said
- I'm not assuming they would be a red flag. They can be concerned about more than one thing at the same time lol. Furthermore with the new (insert russian name I forgot) law in the USA, anyone under USA jurisdiction helping anyone dope is breaking the law and hence if someone was caught it would be more serious than it was before.
- I didn't even know Grant Fisher planned to be an engineer but considering it's not medical related I don't think it's the same.

You're dumb as hell, all jobs google your info. Obviously he can find one that doesn't care or doesn't do their homework but at the end of the day he's going to have a harder time if he cheats. You think Lance Armstrong didn't have a harder time finding business deals after his scandal?

LOL, Lance is doing very well for himself. You guys still haven’t named someone who ruined their chance at ever getting hired for a job because of doping.
If he’s going to run until 30 and try and go back to grad school why would they take him back if he spent all that time using his legs and not his brain. Sounds to me like committing to running means he’s never going to be a dentist.
And no, not all jobs google you, they just want you to believe that.

Of course, the type of graduate program matters. Getting busted for PEDs and applying to an MBA program probably isn't an issue. Applying to medical or dental school, the graduates of which prescribe regulated drugs, is another matter.
I'm a few years removed from applying for Dental School, but I can guarantee you the admissions committee is extremely interested in your interests and life experiences outside of academics. They love candidates who have a bredth of interests besides being a science major of some sort. He would be a fool to not emphasize his running career in the application process, It would be a feather in the hat of any dental school to have someone like Nuguse as an alumni.
