We will take your word for it that they are complete idiots. They live in high cost of living areas while earning 1/2 of what average B10 and B12 coaches earn living in great small cities where houses are inexpensive.
It’s obvious, especially after that last Big Bear Media video, that Sean Brosnan is desperate for a college coaching job. It’s rumored he applied for the ND and Cal Ploy jobs, sounds like he’s put his hat in the ring for UCLA and probably several others.
How many jobs has he applied for in the past 6 months and what are the guesses what jobs they were?
Why would he be trying to transfer to college at this point with the talent and success he has at the HS level right now? Likely a Young will setting a 2mile or 5k record next year and possibly 3 sub 4 milers. Plus what is coming up in his Freshmen class. Besides why do college when in 2-3 years he can consider Pro with the Youngs and Salhman’s finishing college and be a bigger name than coaching UCLA or Cal Poly?
The question is why did he whine repeatedly how high school coaches don’t get a chance at professional or college coaching jobs? Watching that video made me immediately think that he definitely wants to get out of high school coaching.
A hs coach who lucked out with 2 generational talents and has a big ego isn't for college. He can't recruit. He hasn't proven he can take modest talent and make em great.
Why not? Can someone tell me which college coach has become famous for making modest talent great?
College coaching is easier than HS coaching as you RECRUIT the talent.
Maybe Joe Vigil.
But yeah not sure what fantasy land everyone is living in where all these college coaches are so great. 90% of DI coaches are are doing the same stuff. Basically just throwing eggs at the wall.
D2 head coach position in CA just got posted for over 100K, so they should move on if what you are saying is true
Without seeing the post, it's safe to assume that position is for "head coach of the entire program" - essentially the equivalent of a DI "director." It's highly unlikely that's for the "head distance coach" (head cross country, assistant track) - which is what this discussion seems to be focusing on. If this is the case, that DII head coach position - even if the head distance coach - also likely oversees all the event areas with only 1 or two full time assistants...if that. The DI equivalent usually gets 5 full time assistants. So that's exponentially more work/babysitting/headaches for what is likely about half the pay.
Now, I'm happy to be proved wrong with a link to this California DII "head distance coach" (head cross country, assistant track) position that pays over $100k.

If they are a Pac12 assistnat then they should be up for a D2 Head position. Here you go:

Considering his results and how many people take in all of the media and threads about him and his team, it's pretty easy to recognize that he can recruit and that he would be a very successful college distance coach. Honestly, consider the records and backgrounds of most coaches at high profile college jobs and then compare what he's done. I'd take Brosnan over most college coaches in a second. It's not even a question. What have the distance coaches at all Pac-12 schools outside of Colorado, Oregon, Stanford, and Washington ever achieved with their recruits?
From seeing Brosnan in interviews, he would make a great recruiter. He reminds me of top college basketball coaches like John Calipari and Rick Pitino. He would have no trouble. Not everyone would trust him, but the results are incredible and there's been not a trace of scandal. None of his athletes have complained.
I think Brosnan is selling himself short if the UCLA rumors are true. Why try to go after a failing program, for little pay, that doesn't support the XC team? He made himself famous with XC.... so now he is going to a team that is pretty terrible and under achieving due to the mandate by the director to focus on other events? That's the only job you can get? Mr. Brosnan, you are SOOOOOO MUUUCHHH BETTERR than UCLA. They don't deserve you and finding success there will be a lot tougher than you think. Have fun reporting to an ego on the end of his contract who only cares about Track and could care less what XC does.
Brosnan will get a D1 job quicker than most. I got my opportunity simply because I was a solid D1 runner with passion and USOC experience. Hadn't coached a single person up to that point other than myself and a couple of teammates. When he lands something, it will surprise you, yet you will be disappointed.
How would anyone know that? Give him a job if you believe it. Easy to make those claims without putting your money and reputation on the line. No reputable college will do it.
