I'm a fan of Seth, I enjoy watching ~3 videos per week. He is under a lot of pressure to deliver results and it does not seem like he is ready for his goal OTQ yet. I just hope he sets a realistic goal for the race based on current fitness, not goal or bust. From prior races he seems to have a hard time doing this, this is where a coach in your corner can give you perspective. He has pivoted his training from NYC but imo not enough. I think he puts pressure on himself to hit those mileage numbers too much and should give more credit to listening to the body and cut runs sometimes.
Disagree with his training philosophy all you want, but all the hate is silly. He has made a career out of his favorite hobby. He provides content for running obsessed hobbyjoggers like myself. I don't care for his training philosophy, I have a coach, but I enjoy seeing running views and content the same reason I come here despite all the trolls. He brings people to running. He brings hobbyjoggers to running. He is easily qualfied to coach 95% of runners and expect when he turns DGR into that he will be quite successful at it. More people running is good, even if they are only doing 30mpw and trying to break 4hr marathons. Positivity is good, the only place positivity could be considered toxic is a forum like LRC, a toxic one...(still love it)
I will be in attendance at his group run Saturday because it's fun, I'm bringing my son who runs and well do a few miles on the riverwalk with a youtube "star". We also went to see a DudePerfect show, and their positivity is refreshing as well.
I'm racing Gasparilla as well. The weather report is not favorable for a CO guy. It's supposed to be mid 60s, 90% humidity, and 6-7mph winds. Wind isn't terrible but it will be in our face from 5-9ish miles. I expect he will run about 69:00.
