Looks like Oregon has 153k cases per million and 1.46k deaths per million. Compare that to where I live - 245k cases per million and 3.23k deaths per million. Masks might be helping. My stay is pretty low vax rate too though and high obesity.

For the most part, no. People where I live are reasonable everyday people that realize that living free lives involves a certain degree of risk, and they value being able to see everyone's faces, and not feeling a chin diaper on their face.

It's 2022 and people are still incapable of understanding that correlation is not causation.

What I would really love to see is a frank admission from any authority figure that masks are unpleasant, and a serious deviation from any normal human behavior. Oddly enough, I am grateful for some of the right-wing wack jobs out there because they seem to be the only voices suggesting that maybe the way life has been for the past two years is disturbing and wrong.
They are really only unpleasant in the summer unless you are a pansy.
Many human cultures have regular mask or face coverings. So it's a culture deviation.
Every liberal I know destests mask wearing. The difference is they don't constantly cry about it, yell at strangers or use it to threaten people .
BTW-
"You know, public health [officials] don't get to tell people what to wear; that's just not their job," Polis said. "You don't tell people what to wear. You don't tell people to wear a jacket when they go out in winter and force them to [wear it]. If they get frostbite, it's their own darn fault." Democratic Gov.
Plenty of people, liberal or otherwise, think it's perfectly acceptable to yell and curse at strangers when they are unmasked, even outside. Your point about other human cultures is fair enough, but for better or for worse, most of the people in this discussion happened to grow up in a culture without face coverings. Why would anyone pretend that this massive shift in relations between people should go smoothly? It is incredibly grating that seeing the whole of other people's faces is practically against the law, except in time and space limited situations (e.g., when you're at your table, but not if you get up to go to the bathroom, god forbid; before you cross the threshold of any building, but not the second you step inside). As we have already seen, the problems with Covid-19 restrictions of any kind in the US do become social and political problems, and in some ways they should. No matter how many times we say "follow the science" (as if such a dictum were straightforward at all), we need to remember that people should not live in a vacuum in which public health outcomes are the only thing that matters.
The real frustration is that we have people who think that way, and people who dare to suspect otherwise talking past each other. My question is do you want to live in a place where your ability for your face to be visible is considerably limited most of the time? What will the social implications of that be in five, 10 and 20 years from now if this continues? What does this mean for children in school? The exhaustion and depression these constant public health rituals create is, to my mind worse than Covid itself.
Yes unless you're our states fine governor or cities excellent mayor and want to take a picture with Magic. Just make sure you hold your breath, cause you know tah Science.

Also if you are a coach on the sidelines in SoFi stadium, you don't have to wear a mask.
Old people are the only ones I see wearing masks.
I have to wear one at work unless in my office alone. No big deal.
I still wear it in grocery stores (and I will for the foreseeable future) and such and I think there is still a local mandate since everyone else does too.
Anywhere else, no.
Its really not a big deal, and yes they do help.

Exactly. It's extremely abusive to try and make anyone wear a breathing restrictor, and especially horrendous for children and the elderly. All the people who've died, i.e. been murdered the last two years should have been a huge wake up call for everyone, but some people just keep on becoming more clueless.

If you're an American you should be absolutely ashamed for mocking the idea of freedom. I mean that very seriously. The freedoms are constitution lays out are unique in the world and what sets us apart in the world.

Phoenix: No.
Florida, major city, absolutely not. Less than 1%. The few mask wearers I see really helps point out the crazies.

I'm vaccinated and boosted but it is common sense to wear a mask in a crowded space when the levels of new infections is still high. I started wearing a mask again and the beginning of the omicron spike and I will stop when it get back down to a middling level.
The vaccine clearly and unequivocally (especially when boosted), protects against serious infection, hospitalization, or death but with this strain is less effective at protecting against infections. I have a young child at home who is at risk of pretty bad fever-induced seizures and can't be vaccinated due to her age. I don't want her to become infected (not so worried about myself).
Yes same here
Some Uber drivers in Boulder are anti vax and anti mask. They pick you up for ride sharing not wearing a mask (violation with Uber and Lyft policy) and tell you the vaccines are experimental and haven’t been approved and that we are the guinea pigs and that Nuremberg 2.0 is happening right now and pharma doctors are being tried for murder. Really strange bro
You clearly don’t follow the science closely. “ Consistent use of a face mask or respirator in indoor public settings was associated with lower odds of a positive SARS-CoV-2 test result (adjusted odds ratio = 0.44). Use of respirators with higher filtration capacity was associated with the most protection, compared with no mask use.”https://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/volumes/71/wr/mm7106e1.htm

Yes.
Everyone.
All the time.
Even when running.
We had 40 new cases today. Up over 32 yesterday.
But that's only out of 25 million.
And we're an island.
Masked by the Pacific Ocean.
But you do whatever you want with that data.

Everyone wears masks here in Japan, although some don't while running outdoors.
Total coronavirus deaths in Japan: 19,131

Nice link, but the median time after COVID was 8 months (0-20 months).
Conclusion:
In this cross-sectional study of unvaccinated US adults, antibodies were detected in 99% of individuals who reported a positive COVID-19 test result, in 55% who believed they had COVID-19 but were never tested, and in 11% who believed they had never had COVID-19 infection.
