Democrats want badly for there to be some "collective" argument regarding covid. There's not one anymore. It's a purely individual matter at this point.

My wife was top 3 in her dental school class (at a top 25 dental school) and went to one of the top residency programs in the nation. My brother graduated with highest honors from his engineering school and has masters and a PhD from some of the top engineering schools in the country (including MIT). Not if it's billions of the former vs. a handful of the latter. Like I said we've spend more subsidizing vaccines. There's no financial argument here.

Kroger will no longer paid for time taken off for covid infected staff (union labor is excluded) who refuse vaccination. And they will start charging anti-vaxxers an additional $50 per month for healthcare coverage.

It is just a matter of time before medical insurance companies start billing anti-vaxxers like they do smokers ... with higher premium costs. There is a well established precedent for charging certain people more. Anti-vaxxers will be endlessly outraged ... guaranteed. The most outraged will be the obsese anti-vaxxers who smoke who vote republican ... noise makers.

I’m not sure we want to go down the utilitarian argument rabbit hole when it comes to medical care, or really just in general. It gets very dark very quick.

Why? Letting children with severe handicaps live is a bad value for society. Many individuals currently in our society are a net “drag” on said society and we would benefit from a monetary standpoint if they weren’t around . Same argument can apply when considering whether those with handicaps should be able to reproduce. Not letting most people live past 70 would probably be a “net gain” for society from a pure monetary standpoint. The list goes on.

No, this is pointless reducto ad absurdium.

The COVID vaccine is cheap, safe, and very effective to the point that there is no reason we should be paying for the medical care of troglodytes who refused it and them promptly started dying of COVID.

If there were a cheap 2-3 shot cure for aging or severe congenital birth defects than we could make a similar argument for morons who turned it down.

The benefit:cost ratio of the vaccine is extremely high -- that is what makes subsidizing antivaxxers on their deathbed so frustrating.

Most antivaxxers are not so dumb they will bankrupt their families right before Christmas because the dude on the TV told them not to get vaxxed. But some are!
