I don’t even know why this is a topic. No one was impeded.
Chelimos got a personality and that offends some o guess?

Looked like Fisher broke stride in the replay.
He never broke stride. Nor did Kincaid.
There is no rule about breaking someones stride.. there is a rule about staying in a direct line on the final straight away... this rule needs to be inforced sometime. It happens all too often and needs to be inforced... but maybe start enforcing it not at the trials...

From these photos, it's clear that Chelimo was not clear of Fisher when he started moving out and still is not clear by the 3rd photo when Fisher has been forced all the way out to lane 4. Chelimo will finish in the middle of lane 4 after hitting the final stretch in the middle of lane 1.
Their strides are clearly overlapping in the first three frames. Fisher was forced to move out to avoid getting spiked by Chelimo.

I’d rather him get DQ’D here instead of in Tokyo for being a Bonehead. He has a history of being reckless on the track. I would take Garrett Heath over Chelimo. Chelimo is a tool and arrogant. DQ all the way.
This move is legal at the Olympics.
Turns out from my read USATF Rules say you're supposed to run straight to the finish but World Athletics rules don't.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong. Considering this is a Trial to pick the Olympic team I think the WA rules should be used.
As I posted in the other thread:
2021 USATF Rulebook isn't online.
But 2020 handbook does have this
163 3 "Each competitor shall run in a direct line after entering the final straightaway in all races of two or more turns unless there is another competitor in his or her path"
World Athletics has no such rule.
Yeah I see that. interesting.
But I will say this then.
If Grant had just kept his line and ran into the back of Paul in world competition Paul would have been DQ'd for that contact not Grant. So the rule sorta applies but it take someone risking ruining their race to DQ a Paul.
Now look, there's clearly been a lot of disgust here today and I have a list of options for USATF organization going forward. These results will stand, but changes can be made.
1)change rules to dq the Paul Chelimo move
That's it.
Now would you look at that. See, together, with these rule changes, we can be the change we want to see in the world and in track and field.
Hey, is there room on the flight to Tokyo? I'd like to come with, I think. That athletes village party seems appealing.

I agree. He impeded.
Shooting his mouth off as usual.

God, you guys are babies. He was toying with those guys. If he's DQd, I'm not going to watch another track race all year after the mens 1500.
Was it bush league and a dick move? Yes.
But how is it different than what we see in every single race? In vritually every single distance race the winner wins in lane 2. Technically they should say in lane 1 and they are never DQd. How is this any different? The person behind you - and lets be real Fisher and Woody weren't in his league today - runs a little bit extra.
Stop whining.
Chelimo is world class. Fisher and Kincaid are national class. Maybe they will amke the jump but they havent yet.
LOL because someone is better than the guy in 4th he deserves to go and the rules don't apply to him... I guess if he was doping but world class it's ok since they are in the same rule books right?
I am glad to see the solid logic your ivy league education got you.

Would you say that if Chelimo had been DQed, his treatment would have been comparable to George Floyd's?
I'll always be a Chelimo fan and don't want him to be DQed, but that crap was frustrating to watch. He's already been DQ'd ro risked a DQ at multiple big Diamond League races. It was a dumb move that gave him zero advantage and could result in a DQ in an international race where the runner he impedes isn't as friendly.

Did you run this week at all?
This is straight babble gibberish talk!
He ran a direct line to lane 4
Cheap, except it does not matter. He would have won anyway and at worst finished 3rd.
This sport is soft with soft fans.
Yep! Disgusting tactics and a complete baby in the race whining about competitors getting too close 👎👎👎👎
If they weren't going to the Olympics. Filing a protest would be warranted. But why DQ him when all 3 are going to the Olympics. And DQ'ing Chelimo would only decrease USA medal possibilities. Competing in both the 5k and 10k in the Olympics is a higher intensity than qualifying. Competing in one event will leave them less competitive in the other event. The speed and distance is going to take a toll. Including the weather.

There is a rule regarding straight line which provides no penalty if not followed. There is a rule regarding impeding which can lead to dq. Neither Fisher nor Kincaid was impeded.
No dq.

I can’t believe the level of Chelimo hate. In the words of the great Al Davis, “Just win baby!”

Al Davis loved Roid Raging criminals.
Letsrun has a rap sheet as big as the dirty state of Texas that moderates it..all the way to its alcoholic owner and creator.
I am not surprised you'd quote Al.
I agree with you. Chelimo admitted during the interview that he did it intentionally to prevent the other runners from passing him. That's poor sportsmanship, not something we want to see from an Olympic team member. The news media tried to brush it off, but they shouldn't have. Yes, he should be DQ'd.
