Looked to be right around 2:06. This has got to give him confidence for the future and might revive his career. You'd think he could run 2:04-5 with a more sensible first half of the race.

TrackBot! PRs Eliud Kipchoge
This was an amazing effort. When he got to 1:27 I started to think it was really going to happen which is crazy because the fastest anyone has ever gone is 2:02.57. It will be interesting to see how this plays with the actual world record. Clearly even pace is critical.

Not only did he not break 2 but even with the most ideal conditions and aids possible and available he could not do it. And... he is the greatest living marathoner and so the best candidate to have done it.
Hopefully he hasn't jeopardized his future with this effort.
He got close enough to leave questions though. What kind of a day was Kipchoge on?
What if Kipchoge was only operating at B+ game today?
It's not the same thing as a 2:00:24 at Berlin...but I don't doubt for a second Kipchoge can run in the 2:01:xx range at Berlin.

Yes, very impressive given a 6 minute positive split

Why are you whining snowflakes upset with Rojo? Rojo is what he is...you people need to grow a pair and don't let Rojo upset you so much.
I agree. People here are acting like Rojo is Hitler. Don't act like as if all the realists are not also gloating in happiness that it failed because of Nike's drug history. This was nothing special.
What a great running exhibition. I can't see why many are bemoaning time trials. As in cycling, time trials take nothing away from "true" racing. It actually adds a multidimensional aspect to marathoning.
So we know have 3 dimensions to marathoning; New York/Boston, London/Berlin, and now Marathon on a Track!
i actually think he may have been able to do it if they had negative split it

Serious question.
I'm glad I slept through this or I might have suspended disbelief like all these suckers.
Under legal conditions it's a 2:02 or 2:03. Calm down idiots.
Really?? Are you trying to deflect the shitestorm aimed at Rojo and directing it toward yourself? "Glad" you slept through this? Wow, just wow

Everyone discussing rojo's tweets STFU already. No one cares.
? Obviously someone cares or they wouldn't keep talking about it. What you should have said is that it's over now and they should stfu already.

What got me was that he started gloating with 5 minutes left.
I think he could've taken off those 24 seconds in the late afternoon. Who feels their best at 5:30am?

Thank god your butler caught it before, like, 10,000 people on the internet saw it. Not. You took what could have been a celebration of something cool, regardless of NIKE and the conditions (I don't like either), and turned it into something about you.
F*ckoff, that's just not human.
Were you also this butt hurt when people blasted Lance Armstrong? Don't you feel like a cool?
Nah, I was good. I'm a cyclist and a runner; cyclists all knew what was up. Inevitable.
I just think when people that make a very public prediction - with no other ulterior motive than to prove that they know more than you do - and they're right and wrong, but the headline is 'I was right' rather than 'That was an amazing effort'. It tells you everything you need to know about Rojo, and by linage, the way he thinks about this site.
He doesn't love the sport, he love him. Lance I was cool with.
That was a super impressive. Reiterates he's the greatest marathoner ever.***When people say 2:00 isn't possible right now they mean with current rules and conditions. If the rules of the game are changed then 2:00 becomes possible much sooner.I had asked people what they thought Kipchoge could run right now say in Berlin on a perfect day? He ran 2:03:05 in London. I said what if he's a 2:02 marathoner? This guy is right on:

Think he would have ran 2:02:05 in Berlin if it were held today.
Then give him nearly perfect pacing and much better drafting (Running behind that car) and what do you get? Looks like that takes another minute or minute and a half off, and then there is the question of the shoes.
I don't think a lot of people would be surprised by something in the 2:01s.
I thought he would die harder when he fell off the pace. But the more I think about it is JK's prediction of 20 miles is he could handle 20 miles on a normal course/conditions. He's better than everyone else and had the slipstream plus everything else.
Which of the other things do you think helped the most?

I wasn't alive for the 4-minute mile so this has been the most important athletic event of my lifetime. Really drummed up interest in the sport.

2:06:51 apparently
Yeah, hope it gets him back "on track" for marathon races. He'll certainly be in demande !

Rojo still thinking anyone here cares about any of his predictions.
Rojo, you and your predictions aren't relevant to this. Almost nobody thought we were going to see a sub 2 marathon today. Kipchoge's run was incredible, but instead of focusing on that all you seem to care about is how his achievement reflects on you.
I hope somebody less emotionally invested does the write-up.
Well said.

Shows that you are an idiot and Rojo is right. Rojo sees right through the Nike deception. You complainers are just sore losers who worship drug users.
American men regularly now run sub 13 5k and sun 27 10k but marathons stuck at 2:07. What gives?
