Obama had his tan suit scandal, true.
(CNN) — In downtown Buffalo, New York, crossing the border into Ontario, Canada, used to be as easy as driving one mile across the Peace Bridge over the Niagara River. But that's now a forbidden route.
In the coronavirus era, New York residents and out-of-state road trippers aren't allowed to cross the border for leisure travel.
US citizens have been shut out of their neighboring country to the north and a slew of nations around the world. The latest travel news affecting Americans: The European Union is considering blocking travelers from areas with severe Covid-19 outbreaks after it opens it borders on July 1.
Since the United States has more confirmed coronavirus cases than anywhere else in the world, with numbers increasing in some states each day, US travelers are unlikely to be allowed in any time soon.
"The US's chances are close to zero," an EU diplomat told CNN. "With their infection rates ... not even they can believe in that possibility."
interesting that the two worst developed nations right now, in terms of covid...are the US and UK.
I wonder why.
The optimist would say that it's because both nations have ingrained notions of freedom...that their citizens respond badly to being told what to do by government.
That would be the positive spin.
Or that both countries are able to attract people from all over the world...usually that is a plus, but not in a pandemic.
The negative spin would be that Boris Johnson and Donald Trump truly are twins and disasters. That right wing government is a disaster.

Throw Brazil into the mix too and you’re looking at three countries accounting for over 40% of the global deaths from COVID-19.
Appalling leadership from three wind bags.

Their leaders are "populists" who peddle the notion that the opinions of the uneducated are just as valuable as those of the knowledgeable.
And, of course, the uneducated eat it up. One of the features of Dunning-Kruger is that the ignorant (on average) are far more confident in their opinions than are the people who actually know a topic.

That's BS!!!
I am 110% CERTAIN that Dunning-Kruger is just more BS! from "the elites."

this will be the major story of the fall. Does this country have the ability to put country in front of party and hold free and fair elections during the plague. Without any help from DC.
Republicans are already trying to foul the vote by not having vote by mail. Will local and state governments led by Rs step up and make elections happen?
Or will they step down and let chaos and disenfranchisement happen because they think it will hurt the libs?
I'm not optimistic. Trumpism and GOPism have ruined the politics of this nation.

The R's are shooting themselves in the foot by running against vote by mail. Who is going to be more afraid to go to the polls in person? Is it the 70 year old man who always votes Republican or the 30 year old who would give anything to get Trump out?
If this becomes a contest between who is willing to work harder to vote, Dems will easily take the presidency and the senate.

And yes, I know that Tiny and his crew are going to do everything they can to make it hard for Dems to vote.
I'm just saying that they are being foolish on vote by mail. They are working against their own interests on that one.
And btw, high unemployment helps the Dems in more ways than one. Not only does it motivate more people to vote against the president's party, it also means that lots of working class people who normally can't take time off work to vote will make it to the polls. It also gives them time to get more involved in the campaigns.
Does this guy have no shame?
Interesting . This poll found among black voters Warren was slightly favored over Harris, for veep.
This county can be more complicated than it seems. Sometimes. Although much of this could be simple name recognition- Warren is more famous than Harris.
“In a CBS News poll last month, Warren topped the list of prospects that Democrats wanted Biden to consider, followed by Harris. Warren even led among Black Democrats — 72 percent said she should be considered, with 60 percent saying the same of Harris.”

What's so "extreme" about treating every one equally under law? Do you think some people deserve to be treated better just because they are rich and well connected?
Both Trump and Giuliani should be indicted for the crimes they committed, and be punished based on the sentencing guideline. It's not about wanting to see blood. It's about wanting to see justice. We need to send a strong message to future political candidates and their associates that crime does not pay.
Agreed
I don't claim to know which of the Trump clan and cohorts deserve serious jail time and which do not. But certainly everyone (even the rich) should be equal before the law. Otherwise, the law is not really The Law - more like guidelines to be shifted as convenient.
I agree 100% but I’m asking how is it going to be resolved when the country is split down the middle on most of these pressing issues as it is and you have friction within both parties? I think that too many people actually don’t mind if there is no law and order as long as their team wins. That’s a problem that needs urgent fixing.

And to complement that I’m bringing this back again...
When a candidate for public office faces the voters he does not face men of sense; he faces a mob of men whose chief distinguishing mark is the fact that they are quite incapable of weighing ideas, or even of comprehending any save the most elemental — men whose whole thinking is done in terms of emotion, and whose dominant emotion is dread of what they cannot understand. So confronted, the candidate must either bark with the pack or be lost... All the odds are on the man who is, intrinsically, the most devious and mediocre — the man who can most adeptly disperse the notion that his mind is a virtual vacuum. The Presidency tends, year by year, to go to such men. As democracy is perfected, the office represents, more and more closely, the inner soul of the people. We move toward a lofty ideal. On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart's desire at last, and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron.

Does anyone know in general how long before elections are VPs selected?

It could be name recognition.
Or could it be that African Americans actually know how to vote their interests? Could it be that they don't just vote on skin color?
