Great presidential speech by Biden last night (my time), stayed up to watch to end. Also looks like no teleprompter, unlike Trump's .
looks like a real leader to me now
Wonder why no talk of this speech here?

I watched it. He was as good as expected. Probably not mentioned here because anything Biden does will be irrelevant for as long as trump is shooting himself in the foot, which will probably be everyday through Nov. Remember, never interrupt your enemy when he's making a mistake -Napoleon. Biden can just hang out and do dry runs until then.

I think the least extreme thing will be how it goes down. He will lose the election, and he will exit the White House without being forced to. He will then crow about how the military was behind him and he could have stayed in office if he wanted to, but being the good guy that he is, he honored the election ("even though it was rigged" he will say). He will do this in hopes that it is a point in his favor that keeps him out of prison.
I honestly can't believe how bad of a person he is, and I have a big imagination.
I don't get the idea that he'll refuse to leave the office. No president has the power to do so. If he chains himself to his desk, someone will bring bolt cutters and that will be that,
As for the military, I believe every single general despises him.
1) I agree that he does not have the backing of the military. He will SAY that he did though. If he leaves peacefully, he will say something like that almost for certain...that he could have stayed in office if he wanted to because the military, the police, etc. were behind him and that the only reason he is leaving office is because he is such a good guy.
2) Regarding not actually leaving office, like I said, I do not THINK he will do this, but if he does, it will not surprise me. Not having the power to do things has not stopped him before. He has stated he has the power to make governors act in a certain way that he does not have. He didn't have the power to tell people not to testify to Congress, but he did it and got away with it. He didn't have the power to solicit a foreign government to dig up dirt on his political rival, and other than the label of "impeached", he got away with that. He has broken the Emolument's clause. He has obstructed justice, and he's not allowed to do that. So, he has participated in flat out illegal behavior, abused his power, and broken norms (even as small has putting him name on stimulus checks that many people got). Perhaps you were being facetious? I could go on. He has no sense of right or wrong, no respect for tradition or any authority.

But I can't believe he'd pull that. I mean really.
He has no friends in the Pentagon or the intelligence community. And if he does lose, no politician is going to seriously stick their neck out for him because it would damage numero uno : themselves.
I agree with that other than your word "if". He will lose. Like I have said though, when he does lose, he will talk about how he could have just stayed in power if he really wanted to, and he will say things like the military was completely on his side and the police are all on his side and that if he wanted to stay in power they would have allowed him to do so.

CORRECT! Biden was about 3rd or 4th down on my list of preferred Democrat candidates, but he is so much better than Trump in every way that it is not measurable.

Thanks for this post. Sadly I didn't watch it because I on some level bought into the Republican slur that he is inarticulate.

It was impressive. He was everything that Trump isn't. The choice is stark in November.

Ferdinand Marcos in 1986. (I think the election was fair, although they never finished counting votes after it became obvious that Marcos lost.)
And, in case anyone forgot amidst all the shenanigans Trump has been involved in the last year or so...
Mueller is coming.
The clown is done.
Trump has still committed crimes for which he has yet been punished. He IS Individual-1. He obstructed justice. He illegally withheld military aid to another country. He has tons of lawsuits pending and Mueller-originated investigations into him still ongoing.
On top of that, Biden has said he will not pardon Trump for any crimes if he (Biden) wins, and he said it was a mistake for Ford to do it for Nixon.
The clown is done.

Yeah, and they are extremely quiet now.
He has a certain off the cuff way , but certainly not 'inarticulate', nor displaying so called dementia here, which I admit , I also fell for.
Trump had word for word teleprompting in order sound like he is making a 'moment in time' speech, whereas Biden was quite impressively on topic and emotion
Wonder who really has the dementia?

Curious - why did you fall for it? Had you never heard Biden speak before?

Biden was notably unimpressive in the debates, though that format doesn't really favor generally decent people or nuanced takes.
It's also worth pointing out that as much as we might believe ourselves to be immune to propaganda, relentless messaging is effective and it's part of our reality.

Wikipedia says that election was messed up on both sides. So not a clear example.
The elections were held on February 7, 1986.[238] The official election canvasser, the Commission on Elections (COMELEC), declared Marcos the winner. The final tally of the COMELEC had Marcos winning with 10,807,197 votes against Aquino's 9,291,761 votes. On the other hand, the partial 69% tally of the National Movement for Free Elections (NAMFREL), an accredited poll watcher, had Aquino winning with 7,502,601 votes against Marcos's 6,787,556 votes. Cheating was reported on both sides.[239] This electoral exercise was marred by widespread reports of violence and tampering of election results.
Despite common knowledge that Marcos cheated the elections, some claim that Marcos is the one that had been cheated by NAMFREL because his Solid North votes were transmitted very late to the tabulation center at the PICC. Two NAMFREL volunteers were hanged in Ilocos. The Ilocano votes were enough to overwhelm Cory's lead in Metro Manila and other places.[240]
6/2 Data
We're starting to see a significant reversal in the data. For around 6 weeks we saw steady improvement, virtually every day. In the 7 day rolling average of daily deaths.
But for the last week or so the numbers first plateaud and now they are starting to tick back up again, in the wrong direction.
Which is probably what the pessimists predicted when things started opening up again in late April and May.
The direction is not good.
US hit a low of 983 deaths per day on May 30 and now we're up to 1050 per day.
The world hit a low of 4117 on May 30 and now we're up to 4228 per day.
The tight correlation between the world and the US continues to be one of my biggest questions. Why do they move so closely? We are around 25% of the total so that's part of it but not all of it.
Brazil marked more deaths yesterday than the US. That doesn't happen often.
I will say that I've seen a few notes that nations and US states are going back through their old data and reclassifying. That results in more deaths, all marked on the add-on day. So the hope is that once we get through this data modification period the numbers will fall back. That this worsening is only a data illusion.
But case counts around the world keep climbing relentlessly so I'm not optimistic.
In the rankings Brazil keeps moving up. Up to 20th worst after being 28th worst 2 weeks ago.
No change in the ranking of the few US states I'm tracking. Strange how stable the US states are. Maybe you can pee in the deep end and not have it affect the shallow end.
