Valby dropping Tuohy at 5k? Please elaborate. Maybe I’m missing something, but the most likely and perhaps only scenario I see in which Valby wins this race is a post to wire romp. If she hasn’t dropped Tuohy, Chelangat & McCabe well before 1k to go, she may be off the podium entirely.
R regionals usually only one week before nationals? Seems too close! Anyone else think they should have moved regionals up at least a day or two? Anyway what's everyone expecting for regionals? Do the top teams usually hold back?
My perception is that they do hold back, but maybe that depends on how safe your team is to make nats.

yes, and no, yes - most of the top teams will hold back 1-2 top runners. How hard will Valby and Chelangat race this time? Teams lower in the polls but ranked pretty high in their regions may have to run hard (Fl St, NW, WV for example).

Very few will sit out unless they have a slight injury but some good teams will pack run.
Sometimes it is just rest - look at BYU and NM from last year. But yes will try to run more as a pack and the good teams will not be the ones to push the pace, if anyone does.

As has already been previously mentioned, PV ran the same kind of race at 2021 SEC and Nationals; she faded after 4K on both courses — which are predominantly uphill in the last K (Gans Creek), or which feature a significant climb in the last K (App’e Park). I watched both races in-person.

This isn’t hard. Helios was merely pointing out another example of PVs typical race strategy and consequential finish(es) in the past. She doesn’t have the foot speed to hang around in a group and win the last 1-2K against some others, particularly when it’s uphill, steep or a steambath (SEC Outdoor).
How is this relevant...placing any consideration on a 3k track time when they are in a 6k Cross Country race? I don't get it?
Lauren Ryan had an 8:47 last year and finished 26th last year, Lauren Gregory had an 8:53 and finished 19th. Taylor Roe has an 8:59? And was 5th I think. Idk how relevant 3k time is to XC, other than to say someone is a strong runner
The intent of a front-running strategy is often to ‘run the kick out of’ those who have demonstrated more foot-speed to finish. Does it always work? Of course not, but if you know you can’t win a ‘sit and kick’ kinda race w runners x, y or z, it’s a good approach. However, courses ‘that are not flat’ complicate the pace and the timing that one might use in such a strategy. So shall it be at Stillwater.
