virgin's a virgin
VIREN, LASSE VIREN
Haile Gebresellasie, Emil Zatopec, Herb Elliot, Steve Jones
Virgin is only a virgin because the sheep on his farm don't technically count...
I hate to ask But who was Steve
Steve Jones (Wales) set a marathon world record in Chicago. I think it was in 85. He came back and missed a world record by a few seconds on the same course in 86. He's now an excellent masters runner. Cool guy too. He can pound beer with the best.
he was asking about duh's nomination of Steve Heidenreich.
Steve Prefontaine. He embodies running at its finest.

I would have to say Ibraham Hussein, he was/is a class act and had a speed range that gets overlooked and I just don't think they come any tougher mentally and physically.
I agree on Hussein. He is a class act and his speed range was incredible. He could run a 2:08 marathon and a 47 second quarter mile. If you're racing that guy at Boston, you do NOT want to let it come down to a sprint at the end
Overall my favorites would be as follows
Sebastian Coe - Always tough in a race, perfect form ("Poetry in motion") stays involved in the sport and seems pretty classy. Always liked him better than Ovett, though I admit I'd never heard that story about Ovett's daughter
Joan Benoit - No need to explain this choice
Ibrahim Hussein - (see above). Like Coe, he had incredible form.
Pat Porter - Good to see him mentioned a lot. He was super tough, though I must admit he never seemed to show it in the world XCs
Rod Dixon - "All I want to do is drink beer and train like an animal" - Enough said
Hard to pick one although Coe would probably be at the top. Also:
Zatopek
In addition to his incredible performances, the story of him and Deke makes me tear up everytime I read it
Nurmi
Makes me want to go to Finland
Viren
Ditto

Agree of course on Zatopek, but I think you mean the story of him and Ron Clarke, not Deke, right? The one where he gave one of his gold medals to Clarke (who was great but never won one), right?
Thanks
I know who that Steve is. Kicked my butt lots of times. But always bought you a beer or 2 after he'd done it.
Edwin Moses.....he's why I run
Bill Rodgers, back when I was just a little punk, I wrote him a letter, and a couple of weeks later he replied. This was during the height of his success. He didn't have to reply, but did, in my mind he still has a lot of class.
Rod DeHaven, he's one tough cookie in my opinion.

Post #100. Yeah yeah, so I double posted... Idiots do it all the time, so why should I be exempt? I gotta go.
Disappointed by not receiving a t-shirt yet. Weldon may very well no longer be my all-time favorite runner (especially if he keeps disregarding the t-shirts).
