Sure it is, but Trason's times still stand up. Camille won in 6:27 on the up course and in 98 Ann won in 6:13. Ann's 100K time is 8 minutes faster. And she still has most of the top times as WS.

Violett's going to win the women's side. Based on moving up in the field. This is my prediction.
Walmsley's looking good, but he looked good last year. He pushes the envelope so a win is not guaranteed.
Women's update:
Thanks to all for the great updates and discussion. I like Jim and want him to win as I felt awful for him last year. Right now I hope he realizes where he's at and is holding back a touch. I think things started to go sour at the river crossing last year, he slowed continually after his 'swim' attempt and very well may have blown up whether he missed the turn or not (though he still might have won!). Hopefully with better luck crossing, he'll have stronger spirit and energy afterward.
I'm also really pulling for Mocko. I discovered him through Jamil's stuff or the Ginger Runner and love the Mocko Show. He's hilarious and inspiring and I hope he pulls out a good one.
On the ladies side, I think it's so much closer. I'm happy for any one of them to win, but if Yiou won, I might be a bit happier, I like how she races. Ah, screw it, Kaci would make me happy too, he's so positive and full of life and a smart competitor. Geez. Magda is a favorite of mine for the same reason! See, it's too close to call.

The idea of running 100 miles over tough terrain just blows me away. The longest run I ever did was about 26.7 miles when I took a brief wrong turn in a marathon. I'm in awe of these folks. I'll never do a 100-mile race but I'm greatly enjoying following this one.
I have never run an ultra, nor a trail race, but I'm so intrigued, as the stuff on YouTube is really getting into the races now. Such inspiring footage, it's hard not to get jazzed up. I'm so agree with you about the whole idea of running that far, over that terrain, it must be amazing to feel confident enough to make a serious try at it. I know so many scoff at these types of races and runners saying it's nothing but walking, but if you look up close it's so much more that that, isn't it? Walmsley can handle excessive distances really well and has run the mile in 4:03. He's such a exciting example of what could be when those super fast Kenyan's finally give it a try. In his prerace interview he said that he would like to qualify for the Olympic marathon trials though a half marathon, in late 2018. I think the qualifying time is 64 mins. If he can do close to his goal today at Western, it's similar for me to Kipchoge's SUB2 run in that I just can't quite believe them, they are so good. I mean that with all sincerity. Both are such fluid and strong runners with reasonable and strong mental outlooks. Very inspiring..

Interesting side note:
Gordy Ainsleigh gave up his entry to a guy who had flown out from Vermont because he had been told that he was the last person on the waiting list to get in, and when he got here they told him they had miscounted, that he was the first on the waiting list not to get in.
I mentioned at on a thread that that guy from Vermont will now have stories to tell.
Someone else mentioned that that guy already had stories to tell.
He was a Barkley finisher.

I'm worried he is too thin this year. Looks a few lbs lighter than last year and with the heat and any slip ups like missing 500 cals last year in the beginning of the race and he'll bonk again. Things have to be perfect, stars align type status to make this run work out in his favor.
