Exactly, Perry had 7 rushing yards in 1985, and 8 if you count the Super Bowl. Now how many did the ENTIRE opposition Patriots have in that game? Only 7 yards themselves! On 11 attempts, with no TDs. Hard to put this in perspective.

If you are going to make a bet this big, make sure you get the details right. What is "over 5+"? I would take it to mean OVER 5 minutes, so 5:00.00 wins the house. He doesn't have to "break" 5:00!

Anyone arguing Bolt's weight is a key factor in him failing to break 5 needs to read up on Rip Hamilton. Within a few pounds of being the exact same size as Bolt and could run well under 5.

Adding what he could do with training makes the question redundant and is a ridiculous supposition.

He's not breaking 5. Even 400m runners do no mileage as a 100/200 guy he loses it after 600m and falls off a cliff after ,800m

If this was true I would take what my Garmin tells me I should be able to run as the gospel.

first of all, bolt would never run a mile. bolt is too lazy and shiftless to put 5 minutes of effort into anything

Interesting question.

Dafne Schippers and Katarina Johnson-Thompson make for interesting analogies. Both of them very good sprinters and both (have done or are doing) heptathlon at a high level and have therefor run 800 meters; mind you; after 6 other disciplines.

Schippers has run 2:08 and Johnson-Thompson has run 2:07.

Now, it is difficult to say what they'll run for a mile; but I don't think running 4:59 would have been impossible for them.

Also, because of the nature of the heptathlon favoring athletes who can sprint well, I'd suggest that these ladies weren't training for the 800 all that much anyway. (point I'm trying to make is: without much/any specific training for the 800, they might've run those times). Also, Bolt is a male; so it might not even be fair to compare him to Schippers and Johnson-Thompson; he should be faster.

Bolt has run 45' for 400; should be able to run sub 2 for 800. I don't know anyone that can run sub 2 for 800 but can't break 5 for the mile.

Really, I'd say someone would've lost his house to a bet...
