WTF is Puskedra doing?

It was supposed to be a hard effort at 5:00-per-mile pace, but “I went through the first mile at 5:05, 5:07, and my legs were just completely lactic,” he said. “I was trying to figure what was wrong.”

Then he blowed up real good.

Considering how he looked at the finish, Luke should be feeling pretty good by Thursday this week and ready to roll again by the following Thursday.

When you don't run low on glycogen the muscles keep working very well and the other connective tissue will not be overstrained. He's better off for running this fast. 4 weeks is the perfect amount of time.

The weather was perfect, 40 at the start. Slight headwind miles 9-11 and easy final 2 miles. It certainly didn't have to be "race of a lifetime" because conditions were perfect. Marathon times should been better considering.

If it was reported he did an hour tempo run a month out this would be a non issue- he'll be fine in 4 weeks.

Scott Bauhs rocked a 62 half at R&R Arizona today with Ben Bruce right on his heels. A lot of dudes are getting fit in the Olympic year!

Would the tempo be at 4:40 pace?

This is good, but neither Bauhs nor Bruce has shown any ability for a full marathon. Puskedra has shown he does have such ability--2:10--so his 61 today means a great deal--he's ready for LA.

Luke better read all this so he knows either how bad he screwed up or how well prepared he is.

Granted, Luke should have called me before running at Houston. No he confers with the likes of Andy Powell, A. Salazar and others. I figure Luke ran Houston cause he thinks Houston is a cool race. I would have told the kid NO! However, then I would have had to listen to what went into the decision to go and all the instincts of these so called experienced men. He should have just called me.

Luke just decided to let the winners go. He ran 61+, but didn't go all out.

I totally agree and think Puskedra is in top form and is one of the favorites to make the team. As someone pointed out, Ritz ran a 61 half a few weeks before he ran 2:07 at Chicago a few years back. I think it's easier to recover from this than it is from the 20 mile long runs a marathon goal pace that are so popular now. Not to mention, he should feel pretty damn comfortable coming through half way in 65 at the trials.
