Interesting shoe swap mid race. Was the course Rossi-certified as well?

Although the calculator isn't necessarily totally accurate, that's a big margin of error that I'd think makes it reasonable that Rupp could run 59-low, especially considering that his 5k is weaker than his 10k.
Relate this out to a marathon race, 2x1:01:20 =2:02:40+8 minutes puts him at 2:10, rested marathon sharp sub 2:10.
He can win the marathon trials and worst case make the team in 2nd or 3rd.
No other male has shown this type of quality effort as of recent.
Or maybe he'll cramp up after 18 and run 2:13.
While I don't particularly care for him, there is literally nobody I would rather see run the Marathon Trials and subsequently the Olympic Marathon than Rupp.
If he runs the Trials, he is an immediate favorite to make the team and win.
If he runs the Olympic Marathon, he becomes The US's best chance for a male distance medal (maybe equal to Jager?).
Yes, I believe he could tempo the trials and win. None of the other guys are running sub 2:10. There is a danger that Rupp falls asleep at that pace.
Do we know the Olympic Marathon course yet? Is it Rupp certified? I presume that means relatively flat, perhaps a loop? Something that would suit a rhythm runner.

There was no mid-race shoe swap. Galen raced in blue shoes. You'll see photos of him at the start in blue shoes and at the finish in blue shoes. He ran his cooldown in pink shoes. Someone on Runnerspace posted a photo of him during his cooldown in the pink shoes and put it next to him racing in blue shoes, and claimed conspiracy, conspiracy. You kids today. Shesh.
Let me get this straight. You want to see someone who takes advantage of the anti doping system (backed by big Nike bucks cheating his way to the top, proven user of banned products) race the trials? I'd be disappointed to see him win any money. He is a bad example of an athlete. He has kids fooled around the globe thinking they can aspire to run like him naturally. When in fact he has been abusing substances banned for years and abusing the TUE system since he began in High school. What a farce

Olympic trials marathon? He hasn't even qualified for the Boston marathon.

I lol'd
I think it was an impressive effort in a low-key race. I'm sure the goal for the year is the olympics. I don't think that he would race the marathon this year so I'm saying he goes 5k and 10k this year, and by 2020 he will be in the marathon.

One interesting note, there are fewer Rupp haters than usual on this thread.
Look at the posts a few up. They slept in?

This doesn't seem like a bad thing. In fact, you paint it as though kids will be less likely to use performance enhancers as a result of Rupp's prowess.

You seem to be in the know so I will ask you. Can someone that's been banned from competition by USADA still enter and race this event? I won't name names but noticed it in the results. Just curious...
Are they currently banned, or served a ban in the past? Since the event was sanctioned, then no, no one currently banned/ineligible should be racing. Given that the event was sanctioned at the very last minute, I suppose someone could have slipped through.
Currently banned but in T&F. If you look at mid-packer 5k results, the name will pop out. Gotta satisfy the competitive juices and I don't blame the person.
How come no was has no has mentioned the women's masters WR almost went down by a 44 year old as well!?

Good point. Rupp should be subject to testing in this 1/2 marathon to prove he actually qualified. Of course, all it takes is some money to make sure a test is passed these days.
