Exagerated Rojo, no so much however. Dibaba at Beijing 1.500: 1.17.06 (400), 2.10.75 (Hand timed 800, but she passed through the line between 2.10 and 2.11), 3.08.69 (1100), 3.22.88 (1200)) 4.08.10 (1500). Last 800: 1.57.35. Not bad.

What a joke, the first 4 finishers in that race don't even look winded. She just ran 1:57 last 800 and is smiling, not breathing, it is beyond ridiculous.

Don't get me wrong, if you're strictly following convention you're certainly correct. That usage of the word in the manner quoted is by definition, incorrect.

However, in general everyday use, misnomer is frequently used autologically in the manner that the originally quoted poster did. I was arguing that this was an autological application of the word, not that it was correct grammatically.

To be fair she was gritting her teeth the whole way from 100m out to the line. She has reached a state of fitness where the only thing holding her back is her leg speed. How she got that fitness is open to debate but it is common for runners winning big races to now look out of breath. They are still breathing hard anyway just not folded over

in the 8, rudisha thought coming to form would not have beaten amos in form. but he's not.

then again, aman is not quite in form. so rudisha is the winner and the cleanest guy, i venture in a very non-clean final.

I don´t think it´s strange that Dibaba could finish so fast after a slow opening. Look at Aregawi: she ran in 2,01 and she´s not in peak shape. Her PB is 1,59.

I agree with a few others on here. It's not just the time of the last 800 that's staggering but the apparent lack of effort in doing so. Laura Muir collapsed in a heap at the end of the race. Running 1.57 is a very high intensity effort and to do that easing down, smiling and waving just looks ridiculous.

The big give away for EPO use in cycling was riding up the mountains with mouths shut or talking on the radio whilst dropping the rest of the field. This similar lack of effort in athletics has been going on for years and has been ignored or explained with theories that really stretch the imagination.

In the case of cycling the doubters were proved to be right.

Top class distance running is a joke.

And yes, Dibaba has entered the upper echelon of suspected drug cheats if she hadn't already with her 3:50. If we've learned anything about the IAAF and WADA, the girls who finished right behind her are in big trouble.

There is simply no way that you can say anyone is clean. And the most suspicious will always be the best. The best, by definition, perform differently than everyone else. What Peter Snell, Jim Ryun did looked ridiculous at the time. We know they were not on drugs because the right drugs were not available and/or not widely in use.
