RE: Cheating at Marathons

I see that there are chip times listed for the results. Who does their chip timing?

Notice that she rarely uses "chip timing". The only race that was "chip timed" was the June 14th race. She asked the timing company to "correct/update" her and Larry's results. Not uncommon, it's not as though those systems are infallible. However, it would be very unusual to update it with supposed results from the previous day.

So, we are to believe that on her own, she and Larry ran an entire marathon, timed themselves, and then reported those results the following day.

Wow...Larry Macon must have a private jet to be able to do all of these marathons in the same weekend. I thought part of the rules for marathon Guinness records was you could not be the RD or put the race on yourself.

Additionally, it would appear that the bear lake events are basically in the same place, bear lake which borders Utah and southern Idaho. They have a race on one side of the lake one day and have one on the other the next day.

Wow, I didn't even check the June 13th Bear Lake Marathon results.

So, Larry Macon flies to Idaho, competes in the Idaho Bear Lake Marathon on June 13th, flies back to San Antonio, runs the "Flag Day" marathon with Parvanah that same evening, then flies back to Utah to run in the Bear Lake Marathon. At 79 years old, when he already has a world record.

Someone asked about Guinness standards for what constitutes a marathon for record purposes. Best I could quickly find was this (an interesting read):

Here's a section of the article:

For starters, Guinness defines “year” by 365 consecutive days, not as a calendar year. There must be at least two independent witnesses who sign statements at each race, as well as photo and video evidence. (The independent witnesses must check the progress of the participant at the beginning and end of the race and at a minimum of five different points throughout the course.) Each marathon must be officially organized, open to the public and advertised as such (i.e., not organized specifically for the purposes of this record attempt) and all of the race courses must be professionally measured. In addition, a letter from the race organizer and one other independent witness must be provided for each marathon confirming the time it took the individual to complete the race. Finally, a printout of the official race results from every race must be included in the documentation, along with a link to the race results online.

Up to the SA crowd to determine if rules were followed.

At the end of the day, I don't care who has run the most marathons in a year or in a lifetime.

curious to be sure. Who knows. Besides the 17:02 5k (who knows why or how, timing mat problems??), the time from 10K to 7.6 miles (1.4 miles) was covered in 9:33, which is about 6:50 pace. This was preceded by a 26 min 5k and followed by a 23 minute 2.4 mile spurt from 7.6 to 10 miles.

Macon is a millionaire he is also the mastermind behind "I-RAN Marathon" Bulloney. The course/s are not measured nor are they monitored.

I read the Runner's World article and I have a hard time believing that she has completed all of the requirements for every single one of her marathons. I'd also question whomever was her "independent witnesses" at each race. I suspect it is probably the same person. I get that Guinness allows her to compete in her own races, but to allow her to self-report her time? Come on. How easy would it be for her to ask one of her friends to be an "independent witness"?

The 5K time at the Rock N' Roll Marathon is highly suspicious. 17:02 for the first 5K of a Marathon? That's fast, especially for a 46 year old woman who had only been running a few years.

There so much that is highly suspicious. Is it possible that every single marathon she recorded is legitimate? Sure, but I think there's enough inconsistances to warrent further investigation.

What inconsistencies? You have provided NOTHING other than your opinion.

Guinness has ruled her marathons meet the requirements and the TV station has given up on the investigation. It is time for you to stop too, unless your goal is to continue to look foolish.

17:02, if accurate, would be impossible for this 46 yo woman at the start of a marathon. Of course the timing could be off but that's unlikely if the rest of the splits make sense. And, at the start of any marathon it will be at least slightly crowded to slow a person down.

Smells like BS.

FWIW, other people in the race did not have abnormally fast 5k mat split times.

What tipped this whole thing off was she supposedly ran with a guy in San Antonio on Saturday or maybe Friday who is recorded as having run marathons at Bear Lake Idaho/Utah on Friday and Saturday. Still haven't had an explanation of that.
